Q&A with Alexander

What got you into writing about casinos?

Coincidence. I’ve been gaming and gambling as far back as I can remember. But I never had the intention to make a career out of it. I always just considered it a fun hobby. In 2016, I moved to Berlin with my wife and was open to any job. I got super lucky that a then small gambling comparison company was hiring gambling experts to provide comparison content. Dream come true.

I was allowed to pursue my hobby at work! They paid me to go to both “real” and online casinos all over the world, and test all the games, bonuses, etc. And then write about my experiences to help gamblers get more out of their entertainment. Fast-forward to today… and it’s still what I enjoy spending most of my time on. As much as I can with other ongoing responsibilities.

What's the first thing you look for at an online casino?

For my readers or myself? In general for my readers, it depends on what I’m reviewing. If I have to figure out what the best bonus casino is, I need to care about the bonuses and their actual value, first and foremost. If I review the best blackjack casinos, it’s blackjack. And so on.

Personally, for my own entertainment, I care about my favorite software providers being available. I have certain games I keep returning to - some bonus rounds I still haven’t conquered! - and in general, I find my own experience depends a lot on my liking the games. And usually, when I like a game from one provider, I like most of their games.

If you could only play one casino game forever, what would it be?

None! I enjoy different games at different stages. If I had to play the same one over and over again, it would take the fun away. But titles I often return to due to top-notch game mechanics and/or high RTPs include Book of Ra, Multifly, Dead or Alive 2, Reactoonz, Fruit Party, Money Train 2, Mega Moolah, Divine Fortune, Hall of Gods, Mega Fortune, and Nitropolis 2.

Probably good that I feel this way or I’d get tired of reviewing online casinos very fast.

Do you have any industry awards?

I won the iGaming IDOL - Manager of the Year 2023 award. It’s an award show that honors individuals in the iGaming industry. As part of the reason for my nomination, my deep industry expertise and willingness to share this expertise with my colleagues and readers alike were touted.

I hope this is just the beginning though. The more I review and deep dive into the specifics of the game mechanisms, bonuses, security features, etc. the more I feel like there’s more to learn, do, and share.

Alexander's casino memories

Best gambling experience

  • "When I got onboarded to my current role, my boss and I visited the Monte Carlo casino in Monaco. We had a great night and we were down quite a bit though by the end of the night. My boss asks me: When is your birthday? July. His birthday? Also July. So we decided to put all our remaining cash for the night on one spin on the wheel. 7. And against all odds: It hit 7 on that spin!!!! In general, I love the rush of being entertained with the chance of actually going home with more cash than you arrived with. On the rare occasion that actually happens… it’s the best."

Worst gambling experience

  • "I used to play a lot of Gonzo’s Quest. The RTP is not great, but always loved the theme and the volatility. One time I misclicked though and didn’t pay attention. Each spin was set to the max limit, and I blew my entire bankroll for the month in a matter of 4 minutes. That reeeaally sucked, cause I’m super strict with my budget. One of the longest periods of me not gambling came after this."
