A well-known criminal defense attorney was arrested Monday by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) on sex counts and other charges.

Gary Guymon, 62, who previously was Clark County chief deputy district attorney until resigning in 2004, was booked on the charges and could face a courtroom trial.
Details weren’t immediately available on the allegations made against him, but a LVMPD statement accuses him of “victimiz[ing] individuals of sex trafficking and prostitution.” Charges include: three counts each of pandering, and bribing or intimidating witness to influence testimony, as well as single counts of sex trafficking, perjury, conspiracy to commit murder, solicitation to commit murder, and coercion — sexually motivated.
Through the course of the investigation, detectives believe Guymon was using his position as a criminal defense attorney to victimize individuals of sex trafficking and prostitution,” the LVMPD statement added.
He was booked at the Clark County Detention Center. Guymon’s bail was set at $93K. He’s scheduled to appear in local court on Tuesday.
Notable Cases
Among Guymon’s cases was one involving Margaret Rudin, who was better known as “The Black Widow,” according to Las Vegas TV station KLAS. The murder case against her was dismissed in December. She was accused of killing her husband.
A current client is Chance Comanche, a pro basketball player charged in the death of his ex-girlfriend, Marayna Rodgers, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
On his firm’s website, it’s claimed Guymon “has the most jury acquittals and not guilty verdicts in the past decade in Southern Nevada.”
“For more than 25 years, Gary has worked hard to develop not only a winning trial record, but also a strong rapport with local judges, prosecutors, and attorneys,” the website further claims. “Gary’s experience, professionalism, and personal connections serve to benefit those who retain his services when they or their loved ones have been accused of committing a crime.”
He also claims to have specialization on how to handle cases related to casino markers, according to his firm’s website.
Prior Controversies
But Guymon was sometimes the focus of controversies.
For instance, in 2009 he was charged for the theft of a necklace at the Sundance Resort in Utah, according to the Review-Journal. Initially charged with theft, the case was resolved with him pleading no contest to trespassing, the report added.
Guymon left the district attorney’s office after Cheetah’s strip club owner Michael Galardi made allegations against him.
Galardi claimed he bought drinks and lap dances for Guymon, as well as arranging him to have sex with strippers, the Review-Journal reported.
In exchange, Guymon “resolved speeding tickets, DUIs and assault charges for club employees,” the report added.
Later, Guymon admitted he had lap dances at Cheetah’s, but Galardi never paid for the dances and he never had sex at the club, the report said. Guymon also admitted he sometimes represented Galardi’s employees on traffic cases while he was working in the district attorney’s office. But he never helped Galardi or his workers on DUI or assault charges, the Review-Journal reported.
Louis Palazzo and Craig Hendricks, two well-known criminal defense attorneys, are representing Guymon on Monday’s charges, according to the Review-Journal.
The two attorneys have yet to release comment on Guymon’s arrest.
Guymon began practicing law in 1989 after graduating from Brigham Young University law school.
