Tremaine Neverson, known professionally as R&B singer “Trey Songz,” got an $11.2M default judgment dismissed recently in a Las Vegas courtroom.

Clark County District Court Judge Jacob Reynolds made the ruling on the civil lawsuit, according to Las Vegas TV station KLAS.
The suit was filed by Tyrelle Dunn, but the singer wasn’t properly served, Neverson’s lawyers claim.

Neverson did not know about this lawsuit until Nov. 27, 2024, when he received Instagram messages from fans extending their support after news broke about Dunn’s default judgment,” according to Neverson’s attorneys. “Neverson deserves to have his day in court to defend himself, rather than being subjected to a massive default judgment which was improperly obtained in an underlying case that Neverson knew nothing about until a week before filing this motion.”
There are conflicting accounts whether Neverson or his lawyers knew about the lawsuit until November.
Dunn’s lawyers claim Neverson was served with legal documents at his home, according to KLAS. But Neverson’s legal team said the lawsuit wasn’t properly served, KLAS added.
Sasha Frid, the lawyer representing Neverson, also argued before the judge the amount of the judgment would hurt her client. Neverson denies the claims made in the lawsuit and apparently says he acted in self-defense.
Plaintiff Tyrelle Dunn claimed Neverson and security guards protecting the singer assaulted Dunn at The Cosmopolitan on November 28, 2021.
Dunn had attempted to set free his wife who also was assaulted and kept against her will in a hotel room, according to the court case. She also was yelling for help, the suit claims.
In October, Reynolds ordered the $11.2M default judgment in the case. Most of the total was $5M for pain and suffering, and $5M for punitive damages, KLAS reported.
Dunn claims he suffered fractures to his eye sockets, and nose, face, ribs, stomach, ear, and head injuries. The injuries led him to miss about a month of work as a Maryland Capitol police officer.
The attack has had a profound and everyday impact on my life. I still have the scarring, and suffer emotionally from the attack,” Dunn said. “I think about the attack every day when I see the injuries to my face and body.”
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) investigated the incident, but chose not to file charges against Neverson.
The LVMPD has concluded the investigation into the sexual assault allegations against Tremaine Neverson and determined that no criminal charges will be filed. If any new evidence comes to light, the case will be reopened for further investigation,” according to a LVMPD statement sent to KLAS.
Dunn’s Lawyer’s Response
Craig Drummond, an attorney representing Tyrelle Dunn, issued a recent statement to KLAS.
It said, “While we had hoped that the judgment would stand, we respect the court’s decision and look forward to conducting discovery regarding Mr. Songz and the security personnel who attacked my client.
“We plan to zealously move this case forward and will move to bring in all of the security entourage as Defendants once Mr. Songz produces their names and addresses.”
