The Tulalip Tribes of Washington opened its namesake casino in 2003 for $78 million. Since then, the resort has powered the tribe’s economic sovereignty.

The Native American community announced plans this week to significantly expand the property with 70,250 square feet of additional floor space and an overhaul of the 192,000-square-foot gaming floor.

The expansion and renovation of Tulalip Resort Casino will set a new standard for quality and excellence among casino resort properties throughout the Pacific Northwest,” said Marci Fryberg, president and chief operating officer of Tulalip Gaming Organization, a subsidiary controlled by the tribe.

“This project exemplifies our continued devotion to provide guests with all the comforts, amenities, and services one expects in a premier destination resort,” Fryberg added.

Tulalip Resort Casino currently features a 12-story, 370-room hotel and spa. The casino comes with 2,400 slot machines, 37 table games, a bingo room, and a DraftKings Sportsbook.

Anniversary Project

The Tulalip Tribes of Washington is celebrating 20 years of the Tulalip Resort Casino with the expansion and renovation news.

The tribe says the project will include several new interior and exterior features and upgrades, with a planetarium-like domed ceiling set for installation above the casino’s Center Bar. The tribe didn’t specify any other project details or what will occupy the additional space. A budget was also not revealed.

The tribe embarked on a $15 million renovation of the casino resort in 2016, which included refreshing the hotel rooms. That project also resulted in the creation of five suites but didn’t expand the resort’s footprint. This one will.

“When all you want is everything, the substantial expansion and renovation will include several new interior and exterior upgrades. Anticipated completion is set for the end of 2025,” a tribal release read.

Tulalip Resort Casino is a designated AAA Four Diamond property. The distinction is reserved for hotels with “upscale style and amenities with the right touch of service.” The casino has held the AAA Four Diamond honor every year since 2009.

The tribal resort has also been placed on the Conde Nast Traveler Gold List, the luxury travel magazine’s rolodex of the most luxurious hotels.

Smoke-Free Gaming

A major amenity for many gamblers at the Tulalip Resort Casino is that the gaming floor is entirely smoke-free.

The Tulalip Tribes of Washington announced in November 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic that its casinos would remain smoke-free permanently. Along with cigarettes and cigars, e-cigarettes and vapes are prohibited everywhere other than on the outdoor smoking patio.

The tribe, in addition to the Tulalip Resort Casino, owns and operates the Quil Ceda Creek Casino and Tulalip Bingo & Slots.

Quil Ceda offers 1,500 slots, 16 table games, and a DraftKings Sportsbook. Tulalip Bingo & Slots is a gaming parlor with 230 slots and a bingo room.
