The public service initiative aims to educate fans about the financial risks associated with sports wagering and prediction markets.

“As the ways people engage with sports continue to evolve, it is important that fans understand the risks associated with putting money on sports outcomes,” said Scott Kaufman-Ross, NBA head of media distribution and partnerships.

“Through this campaign, we want to help fans make informed decisions, understand the risk and, if they choose to bet, trade or anything similar, that they do so responsibly.”

The campaign features public service announcements that will air across linear television and digital platforms on league, team, and partner channels throughout the season.

Core Campaign Messaging

The campaign’s central message emphasizes that sports betting and prediction market trading should be treated strictly as entertainment rather than a source of income, regardless of a fan’s sports knowledge.

Educational materials encourage fans to establish time and money limits, avoid wagering funds required for essential living expenses, and access support services if gambling behavior becomes difficult to control.

“Helping our fans make informed decisions is central to this effort,” said Colie Edison, WNBA chief growth officer. “By bringing this campaign to WNBA audiences, we can reach more fans with practical guidance on understanding financial risk, setting limits, and recognizing when and where to find support.”

NCPG Partnership and Harm Prevention

The Washington, D.C.-based NCPG is a national non-profit organization dedicated to mitigating gambling-related harm through research, education, and advocacy. The council maintains a neutral stance on legalized gambling while receiving funding from operators and industry stakeholders.

Through the partnership, the NBA and WNBA will direct viewers to national responsible gaming resources, including helpline contacts and self-assessment tools.

“Awareness is an important first step in preventing gambling-related harm,” said Derek Longmeier, president of the NCPG Board of Directors. “We’re proud to support a campaign that brings greater visibility to the risks of sports betting and prediction markets and puts education at the forefront, helping fans better understand the potential for harm and the resources available to those who may need help.”
