It is with profound sadness that Casino.org reports the passing of Ed Silverstein. He was 65.
Ed joined Casino.org in early 2019 and quickly became a vital component of the news team. Ed’s valuable contributions played heavily in Casino.org’s sustained growth over the past six years.
As a senior reporter with Casino.org, Ed’s beat focused on gaming law and casino crime. He curated weekly “Casino Crime News” and “Jackpot News” roundups that amassed strong readership. Ed also co-led Casino.org’s coverage of the COVID-19 pandemic, with his November 2020 report about Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak (R) weighing additional restrictions becoming one of our site’s most-read articles ever.
Before coming to Casino.org, Silverstein freelanced at various news organizations, including the Associated Press, Law.com, Connecticut Post, Columbia University Press, and The Chronicle.
Ed was an old-school journalist who chased down those involved in the day’s news for insights that added and furthered the story. A consummate professional, Ed received multiple awards from the New England Press Association.
Ed graduated from the University of Connecticut with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He later obtained master’s degrees from Yale University and Harvard Kennedy School.
In his spare time, Ed enjoyed photography, bowling, and being active in his Jewish congregation. Ed also served on the Windham Textile and History Museum’s Board of Directors in Willimantic.
Ed was a gentle man and a friend we will miss dearly.
