On Thursday (June 11), the Nevada Board of Parole Commissioners denied parole for Henry Ruggs, now 27 years old. After pleading guilty to felony DUI causing death and vehicular manslaughter in May 2023, Ruggs was sentenced to between three and 10 years in state prison.

Ruggs’ earliest parole was set for August 2026. The Nevada Board of Parole says he’ll next be eligible in August 2027. He will go before the board three months beforehand.

During the parole hearing this week, Ruggs continued to express remorse for the fatal accident.

“Not a minute goes by that I don’t think of the pain I caused her family, her friends, and the Las Vegas community,” Ruggs reportedly said in a transcript of the hearing, a copy of which was obtained by the Associated Press.

Ruggs Parole Denied

On Nov. 2, 2021, Ruggs, a former first-round draft pick and a wide receiver for the newly organized Las Vegas Raiders, crashed his sports car at 127 mph into the back of 23-year-old Tina Tintor’s Toyota Rav4 at 3:39 am. Tintor, along with her dog, Max, died after the vehicle was engulfed in flames.

The investigation determined that Ruggs was traveling at 156 mph before slamming on the brakes as he crashed into Tinto at 127 mph. The speed limit on the road was 45 mph.

Ruggs’ blood-alcohol level taken within two hours of the crash was 0.16%, twice the legal limit of 0.08% to operate a vehicle. Before the crash, Ruggs and his girlfriend were seen partying and drinking alcohol at Topgolf.

Mr. Ruggs, and our office, continue to feel the grief and loss suffered by Ms. Tintor’s family,” Ruggs’ attorneys David Chesnoff and Richard Schonfeld said in a Thursday statement.

Chesnoff and Schonfeld, the go-to power attorneys for celebrities and high-profile individuals in Las Vegas, said they were “disappointed” in the parole board’s decision.

Bad Boys of Las Vegas

Many in Southern Nevada didn’t want the Raiders to move to the city. They claimed putting young men with millions of dollars in a city known for its opulence of sin was a recipe for disaster.

Those critics have been proven right at times.

Just days after the Ruggs crash, first-round cornerback Damon Arnette was arrested for making death threats and brandishing firearms. The Raiders released Arnette in November 2021.

Along with Ruggs, there have been two other DUIs from Raiders players since the NFL team relocated to Las Vegas.

In 2023, then-safety Roderic Teamer was arrested for DUI and speeding. The team released him within hours of his arrest.

A year later, defensive end Charles Snowden was arrested for DUI after he was found asleep at the wheel of his car, with his vehicle hanging off a four-foot retaining wall. Snowden was so intoxicated that he thought he was in Florida.
