Jason Robert Manuel, 43, was arrested on three charges earlier this week for the March 5 drive-by shooting which took place at a liquor store/slot machine operation close to the intersection of East Tropicana Avenue and Nellis Boulevard.
Both victims passed away at the crime scene. One was named Summer Lange and the other Rona M. Ah-Foon, according to Las Vegas TV station KTNV. Both were 29 years old.
Manuel also allegedly shot a man identified as “Sam” at the same location. Sam suffered a wound to his wrist and was treated at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center. He apparently was married to one of the deceased women.
Jealous Husband
Prior to the shooting, it turned out that Sam and Manuel had gotten into a “feud” over jealousy, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD).
Manuel claimed his wife and Sam were having sex. It also appears Manuel’s wife previously asked Sam for help “pushing meth,” police said.
Even before the March 5 shooting, Manuel allegedly fired several shots in the direction of Sam and “nearly” wounded him during a Las Vegas incident, the victim told police.
Witnesses ID Suspect
LVMPD officers asked workers at the liquor store/slot operation, identified by the Las Vegas Review-Journal as Pocket Change, about the March 5 shooter. Multiple witnesses said it was Manuel, police said. They added he often came to the business, police said.
Officers also reviewed surveillance video from a neighboring business. They said a man resembling Manuel was seen on a bicycle and seen shooting the victims.
Manuel fled on his bicycle after the March 5 shooting, police said. A short time later, Manuel allegedly stole his wife’s Audi SUV and drove to California, police said.
He is now charged with two counts of open murder with the use of a deadly weapon and a count of attempted murder, according to Las Vegas TV station KLAS.
Manuel was in custody at California’s Riverside County Jail late this week. He was arrested on Monday.
Manuel is to soon appear in a California courtroom. He can either agree to return to Nevada to face trial or a California judge can oversee an extradition hearing. Based on the results of the hearing, the judge could order him to be sent back to Las Vegas to stand trial.
Manuel has been convicted on prior crimes in both Nevada and California, LVMPD officers have revealed. In 2004, he was convicted after being arrested for aggravated mayhem, murder, and robbery, KTNV reported.
