  • Canadian rapper Drake is in Australia performing 14 shows
  • A video that went viral suggests Drake had an incident with a drone
  • The drone event was a marketing ploy for an online sweepstakes casino

Canadian rapper Drake is in Australia through March 7 for shows in Perth, Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane. When he’s not on stage Down Under, the hip-hop mogul is spending much of his time as he commonly does — gambling and promoting his favorite online casino, Stake.

Drake’s reputation took a hit during the Super Bowl earlier this month, the most bet-on NFL game in football history. Kendrick Lamar’s halftime show in which he performed his Drake diss track “Not Like Us,” with his former girlfriend, tennis superstar Serena Williams, dancing a “Crip Walk,” prompted some fans to click unfollow on Drake’s accounts.

According to social media data analyzed by Cases.gg, an online platform that sells mystery boxes, Drake has lost more than three million Instagram followers since Lamar released “Not Like Us” in May 2024. He’s forecasted to lose nearly 500,000 followers this month in the wake of the Super Bowl.

Drake’s latest scheme could cost him more fans.

Viral Video Fraud

Drake habitually promotes Stake, a crypto-based online casino and sports betting platform that’s grouped into the controversial world of online sweepstakes sites. The rapper likes to show off his massive bets, including over $1 billion wagered during two months in early 2022.

Many fans have questioned the legitimacy of whether Drake is actually gambling with his money or if his bets are part of his multimillion-dollar sponsorship deal with the online gambling outfit.

Last week, a video emerged on social media reportedly claiming to show a drone flying close to Drake’s penthouse at Crown Sydney. In the video, Drake becomes enraged with the drone and throws a sandal at the flying device in disgust. The footage, however, is staged and part of a marketing gag for Stake.

The video begins with Drake’s laptop turned to Stake. Drake notices the flying device and walks outside to his 60-something-floor balcony where he hurls the shoe at the drone.

A subsequent video claimed to find the orange-colored sandal washed up ashore near the casino resort that opened in December 2020 at a cost of more than $1.4 billion. Social media sleuths, however, pinpointed that you can see the person manning the drone in a reflection of Drake’s penthouse.

Drake seemingly confirmed the video was a stunt.

The stakes are high. But so am I,” Drake captioned the video shared to Instagram and TikTok.

Drake’s sponsorship deal with Stake is estimated to be north of $100 million.

Drake Does Good

When Drake isn’t performing, gambling, or tricking his fans and followers, the 38-year-old occasionally uses his fame and fortune to help others.

This week, Drake noticed a pregnant woman at his first show in Sydney. The woman was holding a sign asking him to be her “rich baby daddy.” Drake told her to get her “a** out of the pit.”

Are you 20 weeks pregnant? Get out of there. Get that baby out of the pit ASAP,” Drake yelled.

Drake then informed his security to “get her some VIP tickets and like $30,000.” Drake reportedly lived up to his promise with a check.
