- Bally’s Evansville, police say, was the site of a suicide this week
- A man reportedly jumped to his death from the casino’s parking garage
- At least three suicides have occurred at the casino parking structure
Bally’s Evansville was the site of a tragic death this week, local law enforcement says.

Officers with the Evansville Police Department responded to 911 calls just before 1 pm local time on Tuesday, June 3. Upon arrival, Sgt. Anthony Aussieker said a man was found deceased outside the casino’s parking garage.
Everything they’ve seen so far” suggests it was a suicide, Aussieker told the Evansville Courier & Press. First responders reportedly found the man lying on the sidewalk along Northwest 1st St. next to the property’s 1,660-spot parking structure.
Because of the sensitive nature of the death, Aussieker said the police department would only be releasing limited information, and not the man’s identity. However, the Evansville Police Department spokesman did say that law enforcement would work with Bally’s Corp., which operates the casino resort, to determine what led to the suicide. That will include reviewing surveillance footage to put together a timeline leading up to the tragedy.
Bally’s Evansville has a 338-room hotel, three restaurants and bars highlighted by Cavanaugh’s on the River, a live music lounge and piano bar, and 30,500 square feet of customizable indoor and outdoor event space.
As for the land-based casino, as the former riverboat was brought ashore in 2017 after a change to Indiana’s gaming laws, the Bally’s Evansville casino offers 900 slot machines, 28 live dealer and electronic table games, and a Bally Bet Sportsbook.
Another Parking Garage Suicide
The parking garage at Bally’s Evansville has now been the site of at least three suicides.
The first occurred in 2010 when the property was still known as Casino Aztar and operated by the since-defunct Aztar Corporation, the gaming unit of Ramada Inn, Inc., that shuttered in 2007. A 19-year-old leaped to his death in that incident.
Another 19-year-old committed suicide from the casino parking garage just two years later. Indiana’s minimum age to gamble has always been 21.
Last December, the Bally’s Evansville parking structure was the site of yet another law enforcement event after a man purposely drove an SUV off the seventh floor. The vehicle crashed through the roof below attached to the casino. No one was hurt other than the driver, who suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Evansville Casino History
Casino Aztar became Tropicana Evansville in 2013, six years after Tropicana acquired the riverboat from Aztar Corp. when it folded in 2007. Bally’s Corp. bought the management rights to the land-based casino from Tropicana parent Caesars Entertainment in 2021 for $140 million. Real estate trust Gaming and Leisure Properties bought the physical property for $340 million.
Caesars was required by state officials in Indiana to divest two of its casinos to gain approval to merge with Eldorado Resorts. Along with Tropicana Evansville, Caesars sold the Caesars Southern Indiana lease to the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians for $250 million. Caesars had previously sold the Elizabeth property to Vici Properties, another casino real estate investment trust.
In the 2024 fiscal year, Bally’s Evansville generated gross gaming revenue of $173.5 million from its slots, tables, and sports bets. That ranked seventh among the 13 casinos in the Hoosier State.
