Vegas Sportsbook Robbed by One of the Dumbest Casino Criminals Ever

Las Vegas has seen some legendary casino heists, but a newly hired sportsbook employee at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas may have broken the record … for being legendarily bad at the crime.

According to Casino.org’s own Vital Vegas, the employee — who had barely settled into his new job at the William Hill Sportsbook at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas — allegedly decided to rob the very counter he was hired to work.

Armed with a knife and wearing a mask, he allegedly threatened coworkers and escaped with roughly $28,000. No one was injured, but several witnesses likely questioned whether they had just watched a scene from a future reboot of America’s Dumbest Criminals.

The suspect’s master plan began unraveling immediately. First of all, he used a casino restroom to change into his mask, reasoning that restrooms aren’t allowed to employ cameras. What somehow evaded his vast storehouse of criminal knowledge was that surveillance cameras cover every hallway, doorway and square inch of a casino besides restrooms.

So he was filmed him walking into the restroom without a mask, then walking out of it a couple of minutes later with a mask.

Wait, It Gets Dumber

The pièce de résistance came the next day, when the suspect allegedly returned to the very same William Hill sportsbook he robbed for his scheduled shift with a backpack.

That backpack contained the knife and mask used in the robbery, as well most of the stolen cash.

Security detained the suspect and police took him into custody.

None of this was reported by the police or other media sources. Vital Vegas received the information from a trusted anonymous source.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department has not publicly confirmed any details, and Virgin Hotels declined to comment beyond directing all inquiries to the Las Vegas police department — which, as Vital Vegas pointed out, is “otherwise known as a confirmation.”

Under Nevada law, robbery is a category B felony punishable by 2-15 years in prison. Using a knife can trigger a deadly‑weapon enhancement, adding 1-20 consecutive years.
