The union representing over 1,400 workers at Caesars Windsor has reached a deal with management to avert a strike.

Canadian gaming: Ratification Vote to Follow

A spokesman for Unifor Local 444 today said union members will be ratifying the agreement in the “next couple of days.”

We’ll have more information once the members see the deal,” the spokesman said.

The union represents workers across the casino facility, including room attendants, front desk, dealers, janitors, and slot techs.

Local 444 had been pushing for a three-year contract, Manny Cardoso, Secretary Treasurer of Local 444, told Casino.org when contacted yesterday.

A deadline of 11:59 p.m. last night had been set by the union or workers would go on strike.

Caesars Contract Ends in 2025

Salary was at the core of the negotiation, Cardoso said.

Negotiations over a new contract was happening amidst efforts by the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) to find an operator for the Windsor casino, going forward.

OLG owns and manages casinos in the province, and has private companies operate them. The contract Caesars Windsor Entertainment Ltd. had to operate the Windsor property ends in 2025. Caesars operates casinos all over North America.

Last summer OLG announced it was exercising its option to further extend its operating agreement with Caesars for an additional seven months to March 2026. The OLG’s procurement process is to select a service provider to handle the day-to-day gaming operations for the site.

Caesars, Bally’s and Mohegan Reportedly in Running

The OLG cannot talk about publicly about the selection process for a new casino operator. Companies vying for a new license according to reporting include Caesars, Bally’s and Mohegan.

Municipalities that host casinos receive a percentage of casino revenues based on a set formula. Windsor is one of the highest revenue generators in Ontario.

In third quarter (Oct. 1 to Dec. 31) installment payments to municipalities announced in January, Windsor received CAD$2,050,741.
