Resorts World is 1st Vegas Property to Debut Apple Wallet Room Key

  • Resorts World is now the first Las Vegas property to allow its digital room keys to be saved to Apple Wallet
  • This allows guests to avoid the hassle and privacy risk possibly associated with downloading third-party hotel apps
  • It also allows them to bypass check-in lines

Resorts World Las Vegas is now the first of probably many Las Vegas Strip hotels to allow their guests to store digital room keys in their Apple Wallets.

This new convenience allows guests to check in ahead of time, bypassing a possibly long check-in line, and to digitally open their room without having to download a hotel app.

Digital room keys were introduced by the InterContinental Hotels Group at several Holiday Inn locations back in 2010. But until now, all have worked only in conjunction with dedicated hotel apps, which many guests consider an unnecessary hassle and privacy risk. (And some still required guests to visit the front desk for verification!)

Most guests may now check into Resorts World through a web link sent by email (https://skiptheline.rwlasvegas.com) after they make a reservation. That will provide them with an inactivated key savable to an iPhone or Apple Watch (just like an airplane boarding pass).

Once eligible for check-in, open Apple Wallet, select the key, and tap “check-in,” which will assign you a room. To use the key, hold the device running Apple Wallet near the communication reader in the room’s door.

Keys may be shared with other IOS users either through text messaging or AirDrop. And if you change rooms, all your keys will automatically be updated with the new room number.

If your iPhone needs a charge, your key will still work for up to five hours. Simply hold your iPhone or Apple Watch near the door lock — no need to unlock your device or open the app.

Resorts World’s digital room keys require an iPhone 8, or newer, running iOS 16.4 or later, or an Apple Watch Series 3 or later running WatchOS 9.2 or later.

According to Resorts World, Apple Wallet stores the keys only on guests’ devices. Apple cannot see the information, or the doors or spaces that they unlock.
