Just before 6 a.m. on Saturday, January 31, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s SWAT team executed a search warrant at a home on Sugar Springs Drive in Northeast Las Vegas, just north of the Mormon temple.

During an afternoon press conference, police released video of the operation, showing officers locating items that raised immediate concern — including vials of unknown substances stored in multiple refrigerators, which Sheriff Kevin McMahill said qualified as “possible biological material.”

Metro’s all‑hazards armored unit is now coordinating with HAZMAT specialists, local fire departments, the FBI and local officials to safely identify, remove, and mitigate any hazards the material may present.

McMahill emphasized that the situation is “extremely complex,” requiring slow, controlled procedures that could keep law enforcement busy for days or weeks.

“This has to be a slow and methodical process by design,” he said. “We take these situations very seriously, and we take all necessary precautions to keep our personnel and community safe.”

Despite the scale of the response, he said that investigators believe situation to be isolated, with no ongoing threat to the public.

Police did not say what the search warrant was for, however they clarified that the operation had no connection to any ICE activity.
