Mississippi Casinos Close or Cut Services Due to Threatening Winter Storm

Snow, ice, and frigid temperatures caused several Mississippi gaming properties to shutter on Tuesday. Some chose to remain open but curtailed some services.

Biloxi, Miss.’ Sun Herald news outlet and various social media sites report the following closures at Mississippi casinos:

  • Biloxi’s Palace Casino Resort’s gaming floor and restaurants are closed on Tuesday, including slots, table games, and sportsbook. The hotel remains open.
  • D’Iberville’s Scarlet Pearl Casino closed the gaming floor, hotel, and restaurants at midnight Monday, and remains shuttered on Tuesday. It may reopen by noon on Wednesday.
  • Boomtown Biloxi’s poker room and restaurants are closed on Tuesday. BT Grill will reopen at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, with other restaurants at the gaming property reopening their doors on Thursday.
  • St. Louis’ Hollywood Casino Gulf Coast Celebrity Grill is open on Tuesday but other restaurants are closed. The poker room is shuttered on Tuesday. The golf course is closed Tuesday and is to reopen at 10 a.m. on Thursday.
  • Biloxi’s IP Casino Resort will have “limited venues” open on Tuesday, according to a Facebook post.
  • St. Louis’ Silver Slipper Casino closed its Jubilee Buffet, table games, and gift shop on Tuesday. Table games will resume at 2 p.m. on Wednesday. The Jubilee Buffet will resume operations at 4 p.m. on Wednesday.
  • Biloxi’s Treasure Bay Casino closed the Infinity Buffet at 10 p.m. on Monday and will remain closed on Tuesday. It will reopen at 4 p.m. on Wednesday. The Den/Blu are also closed, and will reopen at 4 p.m. on Wednesday.

Weather Getting Worse

As of 3 p.m. on Tuesday, a winter storm warning was posted for all of Southern Mississippi between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, according to Mississippi TV station WLOX.

Snow is continuing to fall and total accumulation by late Tuesday is expected to be between three and six inches. Low temperatures will drop into the teens and 20s. Wind chills will be in the teens and even single digits through Wednesday.

Earlier on Tuesday, the region faced rain, freezing rain, sleet, and snow, according to news reports.

Driving could continue to be difficult given slippery conditions on roads. Overpasses and bridges may be particularly hazardous. Wednesday morning could see the most difficult driving conditions.

State of Emergency

In response to the risky winter weather, Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves (R) declared a state of emergency through Wednesday.
