Hard Rock Casino Rockford in Illinois will build a new hotel and convention center, making the destination a prime setting for both leisure and business travel.

Saying the company is “doubling down on Rockford, Geno Iafrate, president of Hard Rock Rockford, announced that the casino is making a sizable investment to bring 15,000 square feet of flexible event space and a 200-room hotel to the city in Northern Illinois.
“This hotel and convention center cements our commitment to this community and its growing needs. Our belief is that this region is a destination that can compete at the highest level,” said Iafrate.
“We’re not going anywhere. Instead, we’re defining and building what’s next in expanding our role as the premier entertainment destination in the region,” the Hard Rock executive continued.
The permanent Hard Rock Rockford casino opened in August 2024. The 175,000-square-foot facility includes a casino floor with nearly 1,300 slot machines, 50 table games, and a sportsbook.
Hard Rock additionally includes Hard Rock Live, a concert hall with seating for up to 2,000 people. The casino includes six restaurants and bars, highlighted by Hard Rock’s flagship Council Oak Steaks & Seafood.
City Will Help Fund Convention Center
Hard Rock plans to construct its convention center in hopes of luring overnight visitors to its forthcoming hotel. Along with the meeting space and guestrooms, the hotel plan includes a full-service spa, a fitness center, and additional dining and drinking outlets.
The project is dependent on being financed through bonds issued by the Rockford City Council’s bonding authority. Hard Rock would repay the debt security through revenue generated by convention activities.
Hard Rock Rockford has been an outstanding partner to our community,” said Rockford Mayor Tom McNamara. “Strengthening that partnership and expanding its impact requires continued growth of the Hard Rock campus. We are proud to build on this relationship in a way that helps retain visitors and drives sustained growth in shared revenue.”
With almost 150,000 people, Rockford is the fifth-largest city in Illinois.
Known as Forest City, its top attractions, along with Hard Rock, include the Anderson Japanese Gardens, Burpee Museum of Natural History, the Discovery Center Museum, and Rock Cut State Park. The Burpee Museum’s Jane, a Tyrannosaurus skeleton, is among the most complete and best-preserved T.Rex skeletons in the world.
Hard Rock Convention Business
Hard Rock International is bullish on the convention sector, especially in the Midwest. Along with Illinois and Rockford, the company is partnered with Lake County in Northwest Indiana for a convention center in Gary.
Hard Rock operates Hard Rock Northern Indiana in Gary. The City of Gary and Hard Rock are constructing a $100 million convention facility, complemented by a 300-room hotel at the casino.
