- The casinos have invested tens of millions of dollars in property upgrades
- Atlantic City’s air show returns in July
Atlantic City is in need of a heater. The nine casinos down the New Jersey shore are betting on exactly that in the coming months.

The Casino Association of New Jersey (CANJ) said in a release this week that its nine properties offer “unmatched” dining, entertainment, and gaming. With the unofficial start to summer this weekend with the long Memorial Day holiday, Mark Giannantonio, president of Resorts Casino Hotel and CANJ, says the resorts have undergone significant upgrades and are ready for their best summer yet.
Atlantic City casinos are ready to welcome new and returning visitors this summer with the best dining, entertainment, and gaming amenities on the East Coast. Exciting entertainment attractions and unique offerings are essential to continue to attract visitors to our great city,” Giannantonio said.
“That is why the casino industry continues to reinvest in our properties to create world-class experiences for our customers,” Giannantonio added.
Town Rebound
According to Stockton University’s Lloyd D. Levenson Institute of Gaming, Hospitality, and Tourism’s annual study — “Impact: Atlantic City Casino Industry” — the casinos invested more than $200 million in capital expenditures last year.
Data from the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE) released this week suggests those capital expenditures have yet to pay off. The casino hotel occupancy rate of 62.9% experienced in the first quarter of 2025 was 1.9% lower than Q1 2024. It was the lowest Q1 occupancy rate since 2014 aside from pandemic-stricken 2021.
Summer, however, is when Atlantic City traditionally sees a return of regulars and newcomers. And word has spread across the Garden State that Atlantic City’s sandy beaches have been adequately restored along the northern end of the Boardwalk to accommodate what the industry hopes is a throng of sunbathers.
The return of the air show on July 15-16 should help. The Visit Atlantic City Soar & Shore Festival has an array of family-friendly entertainment around the aerial performances. The weekend will include flights from New Jersey ANG F-16s, a MiG-17, and a World War II B-25 Bomber.
Casino Upgrades
On Thursday, Borgata, Atlantic City’s top casino in terms of annual win, unveiled its new 25K-square-foot “Asian gaming experience” that the MGM Resorts-run casino says is “the most significant gaming refresh in Borgata’s history.”
Atlantic City’s first dedicated Asian gaming space, the area includes high-limit gaming and a “first-to-market high-limit bar.” Multilingual hosts can cater to an array of international visitors.
Borgata has also brought Noodles from Las Vegas to Atlantic City. Borgata says the eatery “offers a culinary journey through Asia.”
Borgata wasn’t the only Atlantic City casino to announce major news on Thursday. Tropicana said Thursday it will soon start renovating all 604 guestrooms and suites in its all-new Solana Tower.
Featuring soft wood tones, tropical patterns, and bold accents, the makeover is inspired by Tropicana’s Palm Walk, known for its grand palm trees that encircle the casino space.
Ocean is amid a $50 million revamp of the resort’s original 559 rooms that opened with Revel in 2012. A family-friendly mini putt course and lounge is also being developed.
Resorts has invested $13 million in several new amenities and upgrades, including the $3 million Landshark beach bar expansion and $1.3 million on a new Boardwalk marquee. Resorts has also opened a new Riviera-inspired cocktail lounge and a raw bar.
