  • Two people from the Netherlands have potentially set a new record for the number of casinos gambled in — 110 — during a 24-hour period
  • The Guinness Book of World Records is evaluating their claim
  • The current record, set in 2017, is 74 casinos in 24 hours

Armijn Meijer, a former European blackjack champion, and Dominique van der Geer may have set a new world record for the number of casinos gambled at in 24 hours last week. However, the Guinness Book of World Records is still reviewing their application and may take several months to reach a decision.

However, if you look closely, it was issued not by the Guinness Book of World Records but by the gambling website that apparently sponsored them in exchange for the publicity. The duo from the Netherlands managed to squeeze in 110 casino visits in a quest they began at Harrah’s in Laughlin, Nev. at 2 a.m. on February 5, before helicoptering to Primm and then driving by SUV to casinos on the Strip and Fremont Street.

They played table games wherever possible. However, post-COVID, many smaller casinos closed their table games, leaving only 70 options on their map. Otherwise, they inserted $5 into a single slot or video roulette machine at each casino.

They reported winning $600 back of the $1,100 they played.

Off the Record

Though other outlets reported the Guinness record as already theirs, Casino.org received the following response from the Guinness people: “We’ve received an application and look forward to receiving evidence to review … We review everything within 12-15 weeks and let them know if they’ve made history!”

Until then, the record still officially stands at 74 casinos. That was set between Oct. 19-20, 2017 by Americans Kimo Ah Yun and Gary Meyer. The pair broke the first record in this category, 69, set by Jack Freeman and his son, Jeremy Freeman, between Aug. 27-28, 2007.

In October 2023, Las Vegans John and Kristina Mehaffey thought they had broken the record by gambling at 93 Las Vegas casinos. Guinness didn’t approve their application because they only played slot machines and not table games.

There is no Guinness requirement that this record be broken in pairs. However, it’s more fun that way and costs less — at least if the applicants aren’t sponsored.

“Say something nice,” van der Geer said to Meijer after they quit their attempt with three hours left on the clock.

“I’m speechless,” he replied.
