Ohio Double-Murder Suspect Has Las Vegas Past

  • Police say Michael David McKee shot his ex-wife and her husband to death in Ohio on December 30
  • Six months before that, he had been a doctor for two years in Las Vegas

When Columbus, Ohio, police announced that 39‑year‑old Michael David McKee had been charged with the December 30 shooting deaths of Monique Tepe, 39, and her husband, Dr. Spencer Tepe, 37, attention focused on Ohio, Illinois, and the couple’s Weinland Park neighborhood. But investigators have since discovered that McKee’s professional history traces straight back to Las Vegas.

From 2023 to 2025, according to documents obtained by KLAS-TV/Las Vegas and KSNV/Las Vegas, the suspected double-murderer worked as a board-certified vascular surgeon at Las Vegas Surgical Associates in Southwest Las Vegas.

McKee’s employment surfaced from a medical malpractice suit filed in Clark County District Court in 2023. The suit accused a group of practitioners, including McKee, of negligence related to a procedure that allegedly required emergency corrective surgery.

Though the case remains active, McKee’s Vegas tenure appears to have ended with no public disciplinary actions. Records from the Nevada Board of Medical Examiners indicate that McKee was licensed in the state for a little over two years, with his license expiring in June 2025 — just six months before the killings.

Paging Dr. Jekyll

Police say McKee — Monique’s ex‑husband — was identified as a suspect after surveillance footage captured a vehicle linked to him near the Tepe home around the time of the shootings. After a week‑long manhunt spanning multiple states, McKee was arrested in Rockford, Ill., where he later waived extradition back to Ohio to face aggravated murder charges.

His Vegas connection doesn’t appear to relate directly to a motive or his crime itself, but it underscores McKee’s multistate professional footprint, which includes licenses or affiliations in Nevada, Illinois, Ohio, and California.

McKee, who is being held without bail at Winnebago County Jail in Illinois, is due in court on January 18 for a hearing on the status of his extradition to Ohio.

Quite understandably, Las Vegas Surgical Associates is refusing to comment about its most famous former employee.
