A blaze that destroyed Mexico’s Royal Yak Casino and forced the property’s evacuation on Thursday was blamed on a short circuit.

The incident took place when welders were working on the building. The crews attempted to extinguish the fire, but flames spread quickly through the Culiacan, Mexico complex, the DailyMail.com reported on Friday.
Smoke, Flames
Portions of the building came crashing down and huge, dark plumes of smoke billowed from the building, according to eyewitnesses. Fireballs also erupted. It’s possible the fire led to explosions, too.
Fire crews battled the blaze for approximately two hours before it was extinguished.
Despite efforts of approximately 88 firefighters, the casino burned to the ground, the Mirror reported.
Three Victims Received Treatment
It led to one man, named Alejandro, 39, to receive second-degree burns on his hands and back. He received treatment at a local hospital. No word on his current condition.
Two other victims were treated at the scene of the massive blaze, according to the Mirror news outlet. They went into shock and were given emergency aid by paramedics, according to news reports.
The fire led some 415 employees and 232 visitors to be evacuated from the casino and other sites located in a shopping center called Cinépolis Plaza, DailyMail.com reported.
A nearby school also was evacuated. No students were injured.
Many eyewitnesses chose not to leave the scene, instead using cellphones to take photographs and video of the fire.
In a press conference on Friday, Secretary General Feliciano Castro of the Mexican State of Sinaloa said the gaming property was destroyed, as was the Air Jump Trampolines Park, which was a play site for children.
Arson Not Indicated
Indeed, the line of progress reported by the prosecution rules out that it was provoked,” Castro added when addressing reporters about the origin of the blaze. He ruled out the possibility that the fire was intentionally set.
The welders were believed to have been making repairs to the complex when the short circuit occurred, leading to the fire.
The Royal Yak Casino is located about 38 miles from the Gulf of California. It’s owned by Grupo Condere, which is based in Spain. It owns other casinos in Mexico, as well as in Argentina, Colombia, Uruguay, Panama, and Italy.
