Fanatics Betting and Gaming, the sportsbook unit of the sports apparel merchandiser and collectibles company owned by billionaire Michael Rubin, is doubling down on its bet on online gambling with the introduction of its standalone internet casino app.

Fanatics Casino launched Friday on iOS and Android in Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia, four of the seven states where iGaming with online slots and interactive table games is regulated. Fanatics currently operates its online sportsbook in those jurisdictions.

To promote the firm’s foray into iGaming, Fanatics Casino customers can enter a sweepstakes for a chance to win a share of $2 million in FanCash, which can be used to place bonus bets and make retail purchases. Each week through June, one lucky winner will receive $25K in FanCash. To enter the weekly sweeps, Fanatics Casino customers must bet at least $10 on any casino game.

Fanatics Casino is debuting via apps but web versions of the internet gaming suite will launch next week, with New Jersey scheduled first for Monday. The Fanatics Casino rollout will presumably be heavily promoted at next month’s Fanatics Fest at New York City’s Javits Center.

Customers to Gamblers

Fanatics has invested hundreds of millions of dollars into its gaming ventures, which ignited after the company acquired PointsBet US in 2023 for $225 million. The PointsBet deal provided a quick expansion pathway for its Fanatics Sportsbook to enter many online sports betting markets.

Fanatics’ online sportsbook market share has soared from less than 0.5% in November 2023 to more than 5% at the end of 2024. Fanatics has managed to convert many of its merchandise and collectibles customers into sports bettors. It’s now hoping to do the same with iGaming, a tall task considering DraftKings and FanDuel dominate the iGaming space.

Fanatics has contracted several leading iGaming developers for its online slots and tables, including Light & Wonder, IGT PlayDigital, Evolution, and White Hat Studios.

Evolution will provide live dealers for table games on the Fanatics Casino app and desktop. Live dealers are available for blackjack, roulette, and baccarat.

iGaming is Big Business

Unlike sports betting, a small-margin gaming sector, iGaming delivers operators more robust and reliable gaming revenue. While month-to-month sports betting revenue can be unpredictable due to the outcomes of events and games, online casino operators more confidently know that the odds are in their favor.

Licensed iGaming operators in the seven regulated states — Connecticut, Delaware, and Rhode Island being the three others — generated gross gaming revenue of $8.41 billion last year. Sports betting, legal in 39 states and Washington, DC, generated GGR of $13.71 billion.

iGaming’s potential, as made evident by winning more than half of what oddsmakers did despite operating in less than a quarter of the number of states, and its seven legal markets being several of the least-populated (West Virginia — 40th, Rhode Island — 45th, Delaware — 46th), is presumably why Fanatics is investing in online casinos.

iGaming growth continues to outpace sports betting, too. iGaming GGR climbed 29% year over year in 2024, while sports gambling revenue increased 24%.
