- UFC CEO Dana White announces packed fight card for summer months
- Ilia Topuria and Charles Oliveira confirmed for UFC 317 in Las Vegas in June
- Topuria moves up from featherweight
Conor McGregor, who is either running for President of Ireland or training for a future UFC fight, couldn’t contain his excitement when hearing about the Ilia Topuria-Charles Oliveira fight for the lightweight championship at UFC 317 announced on Tuesday.

UFC CEO Dana White announced the big event via social media. Islam Makhachev, the pound-for-pound men’s top-ranked UFC fighter will vacate his lightweight title to move up to welterweight in pursuit of a second belt against Jack Della Maddalena. That fight hasn’t been announced yet.
The slugfest for the lightweight belt will be held June 28 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Said McGregor upon hearing the news:
Wow! Real exciting times again in the UFC! Oh Yes! Bravo, Dana White! Never a doubt!” Plenty of money bag emojis accompanied the X post.
Lately, McGregor has appeared to be more preoccupied with pushing for a strategic Bitcoin reserve for Ireland, if X posts are any indication.
de Plessis versus Chimaev Also Announced
White also announced a date and location for Dricus du Plessis versus Khamzat Chimaev for the middleweight title at UFC 319 at the United Center in Chicago on August 16.
That fight had been rumored for months, which White confirmed. Chimaev has been considered the heir apparent there for a while now.
Du Plessis, who holds the title, is 23-2-0, and last beat Sean Strickland by unanimous decision on February 8 at UFC 312 in Australia. Chimaev is the No. 3-ranked middleweight contender.
Most fight fans wanted a Makhachev versus Topuria superfight, but it’s not meant to be. Topuria won the featherweight title at UFC 298 in February 2024 when he knocked out Alexander Volkanovski, then defended the title last October at UFC 308 when he knocked out Max Holloway, the former featherweight champion.
Topuria Moves Up Weight Class
Topuria, 28, vacated the featherweight title earlier this year, wanting to move up a weight class.
A quick scan at the UFC men’s pound-for-pound rankings today has Makhachev in the lead, followed by Jon Jones, then Topuria.
How do the UFC betting markets look? Early odds at DraftKings have Topuria -380, Oliveira +300, DuPlessis +164, and Chimaev -198. At NorthStar Bets it’s Topuria at -420, Oliveira at +310, Du Plessis at +155, Chimaev at -195
