Ontario Sports Betting Revenue Drops 33% After Record January

  • Sportsbook revenue drops to CA$61.5 million in February after record January
  • Casino dominates the market
  • Total cash wagers drop 9% in February

After a record-setting January for sports betting, with CA$1.182 billion in wagers and CA$91.9 million in gross gaming revenue (a whopping 134% month-over-month increase), the Ontario iGaming market settled down a bit in February, according to monthly data released this morning.

The Ontario market, currently with 50 operators and 84 licensed gaming websites saw CA$7.12 billion in total wagers in February (down from CA$7.83 billion in January), and CA$280 million in total nonadjusted gross gaming revenue, a 15% month-over-month decrease (CA$327.9 million in January).

Sports Betting Revenue Down 33%

 

Last December, iGaming Ontario announced it would be releasing monthly financial reports as opposed to every quarter.

In sports betting, the market generated CA$930 million in wagers in February (13% market share, a 21% decrease in wagers from January), and CA$61.5 million in gross gaming revenue (22% market share and a 33% month-over-month drop). 

Casino Still Dominates

Active player accounts were up 2%, to 1.12 million in February.

Casino dominates the Ontario market, at CA$6.0 billion in cash wagers (85% market share, a 7% month-over-month decrease in wagers), and CA$214 million in revenue (76% market share, a 7% month-over-month decrease).

Poker Stays the Course

Peer-to-peer poker was at CA$130 million in cash wagers (2% market share and an 11% month-over-month decrease), and CA$4.8 million in revenue (2% market share,  and a 15% month-over-month decrease).

Average revenue per active player account in February was CA$248, a 16% month-over-month decrease.
