CANUCKAPALOOZA: Downtown Vegas Casino Owner Says Promotion Delivered Canadians

Downtown Las Vegas casino owner Derek Stevens says an eight‑month experiment aimed at easing the sting of the exchange rate for Canadian travelers delivered results beyond what he expected to Fremont Street.

The promotion, “Vegas At Par,” ran from late January through Aug. 31 across Stevens’ three properties: Circa Resort & Casino, the D Las Vegas, and the Golden Gate Hotel & Casino. The offer treated $1 CAD as $1 USD for hotel stays, gaming, and select beverage deals, eliminating the typical 72–73‑cent conversion that often discourages Canadian tourism.

In a video posted to social media on Aug. 31, Stevens said the campaign brought 120,000 Canadian guests, an 80% increase over 2025 levels, and generated 8,000 room nights.

“There were many nights along Fremont Street where it felt like it was completely, completely taken over by Canadians, and we loved every minute of it,” he said.

The financial impact was equally striking. According to Stevens, “Vegas at Par” produced more than $20 million in slot play. The offer also included up to CAD 500 in slot promotional play at full U.S. value and special pricing at BarCanada, Overhang, and Bar Prohibition!, creating a package that went well beyond a typical hotel discount.

Cultural Exchange Machine

The campaign also became a cultural exchange. BarCanada hosted a free open‑bar watch party for the Canada vs. Morocco soccer match, Canadian rock band Finger Eleven performed as part of the Downtown Rocks Summer Concert Series, and Canadian DJ Excision headlined two nights at the Downtown Las Vegas Events Center—with Canadian fans able to buy tickets at the At Par rate. 

Stevens even incorporated his own Ontario ties, bringing sauces from Tunnel B‑B‑Q and Valerie’s Original Flavours to Circa’s Project BBQ for a special tasting.

Stevens used his video to thank Canadian guests directly and to make a broader point about cross‑border tensions.

“Canada and America, we are still best friends, we are still best allies,” he said. “And this spat between our leaders, it’s not going to last forever. I want you to know you’ve got friends in the desert out here.”
