  • A Las Vegas woman was arrested for felony torture of an animal she grabbed from a fountain at the Venetian Resort on Tuesday
  • Security tracked the suspect tossing and hurting the bird before police made the arrest
  • This follows an unrelated March incident in which a Canadian tourist kidnapped a Las Vegas Strip flamingo

A Las Vegas woman was arrested Tuesday, June 9, after security officers at the Venetian Resort reported seeing her grab and injure a duck in one of the property’s outdoor fountains, according to an arrest report from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. This latest incident comes weeks after another high‑profile animal‑cruelty case involving a flamingo kidnapped from its habitat at the Flamingo Hotel.

Though they inserted a bar over her face to protect her identity, police claim this surveillance footage still shows Las Vegas resident Destiny Reyes abusing a duck named Daffy. (Image: LVMPD)

At 1:29 p.m. Tuesday, police say, 29-year-old Destiny Reyes jumped into the Venetian fountain and seized a baby female duck named Daffy.

A detective from LVMPD’s Animal Cruelty Section reviewed the surveillance footage and documented several acts of abuse. According to the report, Reyes could be seen throwing, smacking, and shaking the duck; dropping it to the ground; and forcibly spreading its wings.

Security staff tracked the woman’s movements through surveillance cameras and told officers she appeared to be “tossing” Daffy back and forth as she walked through the property, at one point dropping her.

Officers located Reyes a short time later, still holding Daffy. They reported that she was uncooperative, prompting an arrest.  She was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on suspicion of “willful maiming or torturing an animal,” a felony under Nevada law NRS 574.100.

Daffy showed visible signs of distress and appeared to have an injury to its right wing, according to police. She was trembling when recovered and “her wing was unable to be touched due to the pain.”

The detective wrote that “Destiny showed no remorse and no regard for Daffy,” subjecting her to “stress and pain for no reason at all.”

Reyes is being held on $6,000 bail, according to court records. She is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, June 15.

(Alleged) Bird Abusers of a Feather

On March 3, police say Canadian tourist Mitchell Fairbarn injured one flamingo and carried another — a longtime resident named Peachy — to his hotel room at the Flamingo Las Vegas.

According to investigators, both birds survived, though Peachy required veterinary treatment. Fairbarn remains out on bail under court‑ordered restrictions, including staying away from the Strip and avoiding all contact with animals while his case moves forward.

Fairbarn appeared in court on June 4 for what was supposed to be his arraignment on four felony animal cruelty charges, but his defense was granted a two‑week delay while awaiting records needed to finalize a potential negotiation with prosecutors. He is due back in court on June 23, 2026.
