VEGAS RESTAURANT ROUNDUP: Pizza Chain Fined for Child Labor, Miracle Mile Food Hall Lineup, Krispy Kreme to Resorts World

Federal investigators cited 10 Las Vegas locations of the chain Blaze Fast Fire’d Pizza for illegally employing minors, finding them $277,414 in civil penalties.

The investigation found 28 children, aged 15 to 17, employed “to perform dangerous tasks and work more hours than allowed on school days,” according to a news release from the US Department of Labor on Monday.

The dangerous task, performed by 23 of the young employees, was operating an industrial pizza dough mixer, while five 15-year-olds worked more hours than permitted, and as late as 10:30 p.m. (This violates the Fair Labor Standards act, which forbids 15-year-olds from working more than three hours on school days or later than 7 p.m. during the school year.)

The pizza company, owned by Bryz Guyz Inc. and based in Pasadena, California, has more than 300 restaurants in 38 states.
