  • Sin City topped WalletHub’s 2025 list of best July 4 desinations
  • The 100 largest US cities were ranked by factors including entertainment and dining options, Fourth of July weather, and average beer and wine prices

With 86% of Americans planning to celebrate Independence Day this year and collective food spending for the holiday to reach $8.9 billion, WalletHub compiled a ranking of 2025’s Best & Worst Places for 4th of July Celebrations.

Las Vegas claimed the top spot, driven by its abundance of entertainment and recreational facilities — ranking first in this category — and having the fourth-most party supply stores per capita, according to the personal finance website.

Rounding out the top five were New York City, LA, and Minneapolis and St. Paul. (Yes, separately. Celebrate that independence, St. Paul!)

To formulate its ranking, WalletHub compared the 100 largest US cities based on how balancing cost and enjoyment, using 18 metrics such as average beer and wine prices, duration of fireworks displays, and Fourth of July weather forecasts.

WalletHub also called Las Vegas “great for grabbing a meal out on Independence Day, as it’s one of the best cities for affordable restaurants with at least 4.5 stars.

Additionally, Vegas ranks among the safest for post-drinking travel, WalletHub noted, with one of the lowest rates of fatal crashes involving intoxicated drivers.

Helping Las Vegas skyrocket to No. 1 were top rankings in the categories of “Legality of Fireworks,” “4th of July Popularity,” and “Average Hamburger Cost.”

Sin City slipped a bit due to ranking lower for “Walkability” (55th), “Duration of Fireworks Show” (43rd), and “Traffic Congestion” (38th), but maintained its overall lead.

The five worst cities to find yourself in for July 4, WalletHub declared, were Newark (100th), Aurora, Co. (99th), Laredo, Texas (98th), Cleveland (97th), and Jersey City (96th).
