Fontainebleau Las Vegas Investigates Falling Exterior Glass Pane

A pane of exterior glass fell from high on the exterior of the Fontainebleau’s tower onto Las Vegas Boulevard on Wednesday (Aug. 26). The property confirmed the incident in a statement to the media.

“The safety of our guests and team members is our top priority,” the statement read. “We can confirm glass fell from the exterior of the building, and the affected area was immediately cordoned off. We are investigating the cause.”

No injuries were reported, and no other details were disclosed.

The incident was first reported by Reddit user PeterPipersPickles, who posted that glass hit the roof of his car while driving it for Uber. The Redditor also provided a photo of the tower missing a pane.  

Not the First Time

This wasn’t the first time glass fell from the 67-story tower. Weeks before its December 2023 opening, wind gusts knocked scaffolding into several panes, which shattered and fell onto the pool deck. At the time, a Clark County spokesperson told KLAS-TV that the gusts did not knock panels out of their secured positions.

“All aspects of the project have been designed, constructed, and inspected in accordance with all applicable codes,” the Fontainebleau said at the time.

A resort two decades in the making, the Fontainebleau broke ground in 2007, but the project was abandoned during the 2009 financial crisis. It opened on Dec. 13, 2023.

It changed ownership several times over the years, returning to Fontainebleau Development CEO Jeffrey Soffer and partners in the Kansas conglomerate Koch Industries’ real estate wing in February 2021.
