It’s not every day you get to hang with one-named celebrities, much less learn something from them. Neither Adele, Cher nor Beyonce will give you singing lessons.

But Nobu (Chef Nobu Matsuhisa) — a string of whose restaurants have earned Michelin stars — is offering to teach a small group of students how to roll sushi when he returns to the eatery and hotel bearing his famous first name at Caesars Palace this fall.
Chef Nobu’s class will convene on Sept. 17, followed by a meal of sushi, signature menu dishes and craft cocktails. The evening before, the chef will attend a tasting featuring dishes from 10 Nobu restaurants across the West Coast.
“From savoring signature Nobu creations to stepping behind the counter for hands-on sushi-making with the master himself, these are the ultimate foodie experiences you can’t miss,” said Caesars Palace senior VP/GM Terrence O’Donnell in a statement.
Tickets for each event start at $500 per person and can be purchased at here.
Health to Pay

The Southern Nevada Health District (SNHD) ordered the temporary closure of Mezzo Bistro & Wine in northwest Las Vegas after finding multiple food code violations during a routine inspection on June 26.
A total of 38 demerits were issued to the Italian restaurant at 4275 N. Rancho Drive, for infractions including dirty food contact surfaces, lack of adequate refrigeration, bare-hand food contact, food not protected from potential cross contamination, pest control measures and a lack of equipment maintenance.
The SNHD also closed Yun Nan Garden at 3940 Schiff Drive in Chinatown on June 24, issuing 44 demerits for violations including improper handwashing; spoiled, contaminated or adulterated food; food at improper temperatures; food not protected from cross-contamination; and equipment not properly designed, maintained and operated.
Dining Ins & Outs
First Watch, an American brunch chain with 580 locations in 31 states, will open its first Las Vegas venue on Aug. 25 near the Cannery Casino at 1020 E. Craig Road in North Las Vegas. Two other First Watch locations will open in Henderson by either the end of the year or early next.
The X Pot, the hot pot hot spot in The Venetian, will close for remodeling after its last service on July 31. When it re-emerges in October, it will include a buffet line combined with table service.
When Battista’s Hole in the Wall closed so abruptly earlier this month, we questioned the vintage Vegas Italian spot’s public notice that it was merely for renovations. Since then, owner Randy Markin told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that its June 23 reopening has been delayed until July 10, or perhaps even later, due to a missed inspection appointment and other delays in rebuilding the restaurant’s roof and installing a new industrial air conditioning system.
The Wynn’s SW Steakhouse closed on June 16 for a refresh and is set to reopen Aug. 7.

I had dinner at Mezzo tonight and it was delicious. I’ve never seen any problems there and I have been there several times!
I read this headline quickly and thought the health department had closed Nobu down. Considering all of the customers, staff, and food a Strip restaurant sees daily, kudos to all establishments for (mostly) passing their health inspections.
