President Donald Trump says he’ll venture west to Las Vegas to thank Nevadans for his 2024 triumph. A key swing state, Nevada has correctly predicted the outcome of every presidential election since 1980, sans 2016, when the former casino billionaire first won the White House.

On his first full day back in the Oval Office, Trump told reporters he’ll visit North Carolina and Southern California on Thursday. Much of rural North Carolina remains devastated from a Category 4 hurricane that ravaged the state’s mountainous western region in September. Los Angeles continues to deal with wildfires where blazes rage on in the Palisades and Altadena.

Trump said he’ll make a pitstop in Las Vegas during his trip to Los Angeles.

I’m going to Nevada. I’m going to thank Nevada for the vote because we won Nevada overwhelmingly and that’s normally a Democratic vote,” the president explained. “I just want to go there to thank Nevada for the vote.”

Trump won Nevada with 50.6% of the vote compared to Kamala Harris’s 47.5%. This was the first time a Republican had secured more than 50% of the Nevada vote since George W. Bush did so in 2004 against John Kerry.

Casino Leaders Thanked

Trump’s visit to Las Vegas will focus more on the people than the donors who helped turn Nevada red despite a large, coordinated campaign from the Culinary Union, which represents tens of thousands of casino and hospitality workers throughout the Silver State.

Trump’s largest donor in 2024 was Dr. Miriam Adelson, the wife of the late Sheldon Adelson, who founded and ran the Las Vegas Sands casino empire until his death in January 2021. Adelson had a front-row seat at Trump’s inauguration this week, sitting directly behind former President Bill Clinton and his wife Hillary. UFC boss Dana White sat next to Adelson. Phil Ruffin, owner of Circus Circus and Treasure Island, was also there.

Ahead of the November. 5 showdown, pollsters had Nevada neck-and-neck, with Trump holding a 0.3-point advantage over the vice president, far within the margin of error. The odds had Trump favored.

Peer-to-peer wagering exchange Kalshi gave Trump an implied chance of winning Nevada at 55%. In Ontario where regulated sportsbooks were allowed to take bets on the United States presidential election outcome, BetMGM put the billionaire at -138, or implied odds of 58%.

Trump Hotel

Though Trump hasn’t owned a casino for many years, his family company has a considerable stake near the Las Vegas Strip with the Trump International Hotel. The nongaming hotel and residence is jointly 50-50 owned by The Trump Organization and Ruffin.

The 64-story gold building was announced in April 2002 and built at a cost of $1 billion. Built on the former site of the New Frontier Hotel Casino, the building with 1,232 luxury hotel suites and 50 penthouses features panoramic views of the Strip.

On New Year’s Day, a former US Army Special Forces soldier from Colorado purposely blew up a Tesla Cybertruck in front of the Trump Hotel.
