Good Day for Sports Bettors

According to data released today by the state gaming board, sportsbooks in the state lost a net US$6.5 million. So, a good day for sports bettors. Not surprisingly, a high percentage of wagers were placed on the Eagles to win.

The numbers released today represent a 20.4% increase over the previous high in Pennsylvania Super Bowl betting set in 2023. That game also saw the Chiefs play the Eagles, with the Chiefs winning 38-35.

Kansas City was looking to make it three in a row Sunday at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, after beating the San Francisco 49ers 25-22 last year, but the Eagles had other ideas this time.

Bettors Backed their Home Team

The breakdown for Sunday’s betting in the Keystone State, according to the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board – US$8,978,567 in retail wagers, US$92,569,506 in wagers online.

In 2023, it was US$10,316,188 on the retail side, US$73,997,001 in the online space.

Bettors in the state placed Super Bowl wagers at 18 retail locations and via 11 online wagering sites – 91.2% of the money wagered was through online sites.

Eagles Betting Favorites for 2026

Over US$3.8 million was lost at retail sportsbooks, US$2.7 million online, for that $US 6.5 million loss total. Sportsbooks took home over US$29.7 million in 2023.

Super Bowl LIX was the single biggest betting event in the history of BetMGM—it took the most bets and was one of the best single game results in company history,” said Christian Cipollini, Senior Trading Manager, BetMGM. “Super Bowl bettors cashed in on Eagles money line and Jalen Hurts Super Bowl MVP, but both defenses slowing down Saquon Barkley and Travis Kelce netted a great result for us.”

At BetMGM across the country the Eagles to win at +100 generated 60% of tickets and 56% of handle. The spread at Eagles +1.5 generated 54% tickets and 64% handle.

It will be interesting to see how odds for the 2026 Super Bowl shift as the off-season comes into focus. The Eagles currently have the shortest odds at BetMGM at +650, followed by the Baltimore Ravens at +700, the Chiefs and Buffalo Bills at +750, then the Detroit Lions at +800.
