DraftKings plans to debut its online gaming platform in Alberta when the province’s competitive market opens July 13.

Interest builds in soon-to-be-launched market
DraftKings joins a growing list of some of the bigger brands in igaming, intending to set up shop in the Western Canadian province from day 1 of the regulated market.
FanDuel, BetMGM, PointsBet Canada, BetRivers, Betway, NorthStar, and Betty are a few of the other brands expected to live on that day or shortly after.
In its statement this morning, DraftKings said that pending licensing and regulatory approval, the sportsbook and online casino will go live July 13.
We’re excited about the opportunity to expand DraftKings’ footprint in Canada and bring our online sportsbook and casino experiences to customers in Alberta,” said Greg Karamitis, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Sports at DraftKings.
“With the anticipated launch aligning with the World Cup — hosted right here in North America — it’s a particularly exciting moment for sports fans in the province to engage with our platform.”
Alberta will mark the 34th jurisdiction in North America where DraftKings offers online sports betting and the seventh jurisdiction offering casino.
New Regulatory Regime
The province will be only the second Canadian province in which DraftKings operates, standing in stark contrast to its home market of the US, where DraftKings operates sports betting in 26 states, and iGaming in five states.
The company went live in Ontario in May 2022, just over a month after the competitive igaming market in that province launched. Ontario is a market that as of today has 48 licensed operators and 82 gaming websites, that generated over $4 billion in net revenue in 2025, according to iGaming Ontario.
Under the new regulatory regime in Alberta, the new Alberta iGaming Corporation (AiGC) will oversee the igaming market, while the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis (AGLC) will serve as market regulator.
Under approved legislation, the provincial government will take 20% of net igaming revenue, after First Nations and social responsibility funding is allocated (3% of gross gaming revenue).
Eligible Alberta residents can now pre-register for DraftKings Sportsbook and Casino ahead of market launch.
