One of the world’s largest online sports betting and igaming operators, bet365, is the latest company to register with Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis (AGLC), ahead of the province’s new igaming market launch on July 13.

BetVictor Also Added To List
According to the AGLC registry, with the bet365 news, there now are 31 igaming operators that have registered.
To operate an igaming site under the new Alberta regulatory regime, operators must first engage with AGLC, which provides the regulatory oversight for the market.
Upon completion of registration with AGLC, operators must then enter into a commercial agreement with the Alberta iGaming Corporation. The AiGC is in a conduct and manage role, overseeing commercial agreements with operators, anti-money laundering, public complaints and financial and income reporting
70 Operators for Alberta?
As of today, bet365 operates in dozens of regulated markets around the world, offering sports betting, online casino, poker, bingo and live in-play wagering.
The company is well established in Ontario, having entered that igaming market in 2022, the year that province’s regulated igaming market went live.
Last week, in opening remarks that kicked off the three-day SBC Summit Canada in Toronto, Dale Nally, Alberta’s Minister of Service Alberta and Red Tape, told the crowd there could be as many as 70 igaming operators ultimately doing business in Alberta.
Market Launch Set for July 13
Nally said 37 operators have paid their registration fees and are ready to launch July 13.
“Reality is simple: Albertans are already gambling online,” he said. “The question was never whether online gambling existed. The question was whether it would happen in a regulated environment with strong standards, clear oversight, and meaningful player projections.
“We believe Alberta has entered this market with significant advantages. We have one of the strongest economies in North America. We have a business environment that understands competition, innovation, as well as investment, and we have a government that believes clear rules and smart regulation create the conditions for growth.”
CBC also reported recently that the government-run Play Alberta platform, soon to be competing with the private market operators, could be for sale.
BetVictor was also added to the list of igaming operator registrants this week.
