VEGAS MUSIC NEWS: Lionel Richie Postpones Residency, Pearl Jam Resists Sphere, Nickelback Tour Stop

Key Points

  • Lionel Richie has postponed three of his October shows at the Encore Theater at the Wynn after recently undergoing a medical procedure for atrial fibrillation
  • Classic rock band Chicago is returning to the Venetian Theatre for its tenth consecutive year
  • Pearl Jam members have expressed reluctance about booking a Las Vegas Sphere residency, citing massive upfront production costs and an improvisational style unsuited for the venue.

Lionel Richie postponed three shows this week at Encore Theater at the Wynn: Oct. 14, 16 and 17.

The 77-year-old “Hello” singer recently disclosed that he underwent a procedure for atrial fibrillation, which also forced him to cancel tour stops with Earth, Wind & Fire. The news follows prior performance disruptions in St. Louis and St. Paul, where Richie halted shows after experiencing dizziness on stage.

Two of the postponed Encore shows have been rescheduled for Jan. 8–9. His next scheduled appearances at the Wynn remain on the calendar for Nov. 11, 13 and 14.

Viva Las En Vogue

En Vogue, who just played the Fontainebleau on Oct. 9, 2026, will return to Las Vegas for a one‑night performance at The Pearl at Palms on March 13, 2027. Original members Cindy Herron, Terry Ellis, and Maxine Jones are all still aboard. (Fourth co-founder Dawn Robinson split in 2007.) Tickets go on sale 10 a.m. Friday (Oct. 16) through Ticketmaster.

Vegas is Chicago’s Kind of Town

Chicago is locking in a tenth straight year at the Venetian Theatre, returning for nine 2027 shows: Feb. 19, 20, 21, 24, 26 and 27, then March 3, 5 and 6. Their run now exceeds 70 performances, the longest in the venue’s history.

However, the group performing at the Venetian has only one original member left: trumpet player/vocalist Lee Loughnane, 79. Co-founding keyboardist/vocalist Robert Lamm, 81, and trombonist James Pankow, 78, have stepped back from touring in recent years due to medical issues.

Tickets start at $50. Citi presales run through 10 p.m. PT Thursday, Oct. 15, with general on-sale beginning at 10 a.m. PT Friday, Oct. 16, via Ticketmaster.

Pearl Jam Will Be Sphereless

Pearl Jam looks unlikely to take on a Sphere residency. On Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live, lead guitarist Mike McCready said he’d be open to the idea but admitted the rest of the group isn’t convinced. He noted the massive upfront production costs and the long run required to earn that money back, joking, “We’re kind of cheap,” and adding that he’s only “good with Vegas for two days.”

Rhythm guitarist Stone Gossard was even firmer in a 2024 interview. He offered a quick “No, God, no,” explaining that Sphere’s hyper-engineered audio setup and rigid visual programming don’t fit Pearl Jam’s loose, improvisational style. He joked about being drowned out by a giant digital fish floating overhead and warned that the venue’s camera-driven spectacle would kill the band’s trademark spontaneity—the exact element that makes a jam-driven show feel alive.

Nickelback at T-Mobile

Nickelback will bring its “Everything Under the Sun” tour to T‑Mobile Arena on April 16, 2027. English four‑piece Don Broco will open, continuing a partnership that previously produced the collaborative track “Nightmare Tripping.”

Presales run throughout the week before the general on‑sale at 10 a.m. Friday (Oct. 16) via AXS. VIP Nation will offer premium ticket bundles, preshow lounge access, and exclusive merch for fans looking to upgrade their night.
