In the early morning hours of Friday, June 13, 2025, Israeli Defense Forces and Israeli special forces, commonly known as Mossad, launched a large-scale attack on Iran.

The mission — Operation Rising Lion — targeted nuclear facilities, military bases, and private residences of senior officials within Iran. The onslaught is thought to be the largest on Iran since the decades-long war between the two countries began in the early 1980s.
President Donald Trump is a staunch supporter of Israel, with his largest campaign contributors since 2016 being the late Sheldon Adelson and his widow, Dr. Miriam Adelson. The Adelson family, which controls the Las Vegas Sands gaming empire, is dedicated to strengthening the Israeli State and the United States’ relationship with Israel.
Reports have surfaced that Dr. Adelson has asked Trump to intervene. Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel’s prime minister, said he told the U.S. about its plans to attack Iran in advance.
“They knew about the attack. What will they do now?” Netanyahu asked. “I leave that to President Trump.”
The Adelsons contributed more than $200 million to Trump’s presidential campaigns. Dr. Adelson, who retains roughly 46% control of Las Vegas Sands’ outstanding shares, has an estimated real-time net worth of $30.3 billion, according to Forbes.
Adelson Rumblings
Israeli officials say this morning’s attacks were in response to Iran’s escalating nuclear program becoming an existential threat.
Iran and Palestine have long been Israel’s two primary political enemies, the latter of which launched an attack on Southern Israel and the Gaza Strip in October 2023 with Hamas. Today’s attack, the Israeli government said, is to deter further attacks from Iran and its proxies.
Israel is emboldened by Trump being in the White House. Trump’s administrations have been loyal allies to the West Asia nation, with his first term including relocating the United States Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem at the Adelsons’ request.
Conservative political pundit Tucker Carlson wrote on X that several influential GOP loyalists, including Fox News’ Sean Hannity, News Corp. billionaire Rupert Murdoch, and Adelson, have called on Trump to get involved in Israel’s defense. Netanyahu is hoping the former casino billionaire will oblige.
We are confident that America, once again, will not fail to take the lead in protecting our free civilization from this ultimate horror,” Netanyahu said. “But, ladies and gentlemen, time is running out.”
Trump Messaging
This afternoon, Trump said he gave Iran a 60-day “ultimatum” to “make a deal” regarding its nuclear program. Today is day 61.
The president said many of those Iranian officials who didn’t come to the bargaining table are “now dead,” and it “will only get worse.”
There has already been great death and destruction, but there is still time to make this slaughter, with the next already planned attacks being even more brutal, come to an end. Iran must make a deal before there is nothing left, and save what was once known as the Iranian Empire. No more death — no more destruction,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social.
The U.S. military has deployed fighter jets to protect personnel and installations in the Middle East. The Associated Press reports that U.S. ground-based air defense systems are assisting Israel’s so-called “Iron Dome” in shooting down missiles fired from Iran.
