Las Vegas Sphere Headliner Misses Concert … With Fans Already in Their Seats!

Fans were already seated inside the Sphere in Las Vegas on Thursday (Sept. 10) when they were informed by a PA announcement that Mexican superstar Carín León would not be appearing as scheduled.

In a Spanish Instagram post that was also translated for his English-speaking fans, León explained that a cascade of aircraft malfunctions made it impossible for him to take off in time to reach Las Vegas from Sonora, Mexico at a workable hour.

The first plane assigned to his team was grounded due to a brake problem, he wrote. A second failed to clear safety checks because of what he described as a “directional issue” likely involving steering or rudder control.

Not the First Time

This unfortunate scenario has happened two other times in modern Vegas memory.

Less than an hour before Ed Sheeran was scheduled to take the stage at Allegiant Stadium on Sept. 9, 2023, his show was called off due to a safety issue with the stage and audio towers. And Kelly Clarkson canceled the opening two nights of her July 2025 residency at Caesars Palace just 90 minutes before the first was scheduled to start, blaming vocal strain suffered during rehearsals.

Some Sheeran fans who were already in their seats were treated to an impromptu meet-and-greet in which Sheeran posed for selfies with them. León, who didn’t have that luxury, used his Instagram account to apologize to fans and clarify that he could refund their tickets but not their travel or hotel investments.

“I know the effort, excitement, and desire so many brought to be here tonight,” León wrote. “I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.”

Ticketholders will be able to attend León’s rescheduled date on Sept. 15, 2027, and those unable to make the new performance can request refunds within 30 days at their point of purchase.

The missed show came just hours after León announced an expansion of his Sphere engagement. He revealed three new dates—Sept. 16, 17, and 18, 2027—timed to coincide with Mexican Independence Weekend.

All this makes León:

• the first Latin artist to headline the Sphere
• the first Latin artist to extend a residency there
• the first headliner to cancel a Sphere concert the night it was scheduled 

Two out of three ain’t bad.
