- New Alberta igaming market set to go live July 13
- theScore Bet went live in Ontario the first that market went live in April 2022
theScore Bet has become one of the first operators to secure a license in Alberta’s new open market, clearing the way for a July 13 launch of its mobile sportsbook and casino.
The company was recognized as a registered igaming operator by the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis (AGLC), ahead of the launch of its mobile sports betting and icasino platform when the province’s market goes live July 13.

Sports Betting and Online Casino Product
The news about theScore Bet was first announced this morning by PENN Entertainment Inc.’ President and CEO Jay Snowden during the operator’s first quarter 2026 earnings call.
PENN owns theScore Bet, which launched in Ontario’s igaming market when that provinces market went live in April 2022.
“We’re continuing to see positive trends in Ontario, including year over year growth in average MAUs, OSB revenue, and iCasino revenue,” said Snowden.
“These results reflect the strength of theScore Bet brand in Canada and our realigned digital strategy, which we think bodes well for the anticipated July 13th launch of regulated iCasino and online sports betting in Alberta.
Early Launcher in Ontario Market
theScore Bet has been approved as a registered iGaming Operator by the AGLC, and pre-registration efforts have begun in the province.”
Last week, DraftKings confirmed that its online sportsbook and casino product would be available when the Alberta market launches.
Several other major brands have also indicated an expectation to join the market from day one, several of which already have launched pre-registration platforms with BetMGM, BetRivers, Betway, NorthStar, Betty, PointsBet Canada, FanDuel all doing so.
July 13 Alberta Launch
“We’re pleased to be among the first private, regulated operators to receive approval to offer online gaming in Alberta,” said Adam Kates, Vice President, Compliance, PENN Interactive.
“Our team has been hard at work in anticipation of launching theScore Bet, and we look forward to bringing our premium sports betting and iCasino experience to Albertans on day one.”
theScore Bet is available in 20 U.S. states as well as Canada.
Alberta authorities have indicated that the new iGaming regulatory regime will aim to be open and competitive, operating in a way similar to the model used by Ontario, where iGaming Ontario operates in a conduct and management capacity, with the regulatory responsibility being held by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO).
Under Alberta’s model, Alberta, Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis (AGLC) is serving as the lead regulator, while the new Alberta iGaming Corporation (AiGC) is in a conduct and manage role, supervising private operators, focusing on player protection, advertising rules and self-exclusion.
