Dolly Parton has officially cancelled the long-anticipated Las Vegas residency that she postponed in September 2025. In a video posted to her Instagram page Monday, the 80-year-old county music superstar cited a “collision” of chronic health issues and the lingering emotional toll of grief as the primary reasons for stepping away from the spotlight.

The canceled shows were supposed to have been performed at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace on September 17, 19, 20, 23, 25 and 26, 2026.

Dolly began the update by addressing long-standing rumors regarding her physical health, confirming that she has dealt with chronic kidney stones for decades. With her trademark wit, the “Jolene” singer joked that doctors “dig more stones out of me a year than the rock quarry in Rockwood, Tennessee”. However, she clarified that while the stones are a recurring nuisance, they are not the sole culprit behind her recent decline.

“Over the last couple of years, my immune system and my digestive system just got all out of whack,” she explained. She attributed much of this physical breakdown to the “deep, dark valley” of mourning following the death of her husband, Carl Dean, in March 2025. The singer admitted that the strain of grief left her “worn down and worn out,” creating a health hurdle that requires more than just a quick fix.

The most significant barrier to her return to the stage, according to Parton, is a persistent side effect of her current medical regimen. She described feeling “swimmy-headed” — a sensation of dizziness or lightheadedness — that makes her signature high-energy performances impossible.

“I can’t be out there wobbling around in five-inch heels when I’m feeling that way,” she said with a soft laugh. “I owe you more than a shaky show.”

Thinking Positive

Despite the somber news of the residency cancellation, the tone of the video remained optimistic. Parton assured her fans and friends that her condition is “treatable” and that she is “responding well” to medications. She emphasized that her doctors are pleased with her daily progress and that she is currently focused on rebuilding herself “spiritually, emotionally, and physically”.

Parton concluded the message by clarifying that she is “not retiring, just recalibrating.” While the bright lights of a Vegas residency are off the table for 2026, she remains dedicated to her behind-the-scenes projects, including the development of her Nashville hotel and museum, and her upcoming Broadway venture, Dolly: A True Original Musical.

“I’ll be back to my old self soon enough,” she promised, “but for now, I’ve got to listen to my body and the Good Lord, and they’re both telling me to sit a spell.”
