It’s settled! New York City is the ‘Fight Capital of the World’

Hey, I’m boxing here! New York City takes the title as the ‘Ultimate Fight Capital of the World’, earning a knockout score of 85.2/100. While this result might surprise some fight fanatics, NYC proves its significance by ranking 1st across multiple key categories.
The city boasts 63 titles won by legendary fights and has produced 43 boxing champions – like Zab Judah, Errol Spence Jr., Mike Tyson, and Riddick Bowe – just to name a few.
Beyond its rich fight history, it continues to thrive as a powerhouse with five current professional boxers, 49 registered boxing gyms, and 20 dedicated boxing venues, providing enough space for the next generation of fighters.
The action isn’t slowing down anytime soon! New York City will host four major events this year, in world-famous spots like Madison Square Garden for the sport’s biggest showdowns.
Mind the 𝗀̶𝖺̶𝗉̶ punch! London ranks fight capital runner-up
Across the pond, London ranks 2nd place for the world’s best fight cities (64.3/100). For a city already rich in history, it’s also carved out an impressive legacy in the ring.
The UK capital produced 15 boxing champions, bagging the 3rd highest total globally. With hard hitters like David Haye and Dennis Andries, London’s fighters have brought home 20 titles, ranking 4th highest in the world.
As for training, London leads in highest number of boxing gyms in the world (60), plus eight cracking venues – making it a hub for aspiring fighters. The city is currently home to four boxing pros, all training hard for the 13 major boxing events set to take place in the city this year. London isn’t just afternoon and double decker buses – it’s a proper contender in the ring!
LA, Philly, and Mexico City among North America’s best fight cities rankings

Lights, camera, uppercut! Los Angeles punches its way to the 2nd best fight city in North America, and 3rd place globally (41.3/100). Thanks to its infamous Olympic Auditorium – once known as ‘The Bucket of Blood’ – LA has built a fierce reputation in the ring. The city boasts 43 registered boxing gyms, 19 venues, and two professional fighters at the moment, it continues to prove its dedication to the sport. With 14 championship titles under its belt and some of the most celebrated champions, like Oscar De La Hoya (11 titles won), LA’s fighting legacy is as star-studded as its streets.
Cue the Rocky Balboa theme song! Philadelphia lands as North America’s 3rd best boxing city and ranks 4th in the world (40.4/100). Some might argue that Philly is the true birthplace of American boxing, with its earliest bouts taking shape in the backrooms of local bars – and the stats back it up. The city claims 17 championship titles, 11 boxing champions, and two active pros currently training. With 34 boxing gyms and 10 venues, plus three major events to be hosted this year, Philly proves it’s still got the fighting spirit!
Rounding out the top 5, Mexico City ranks 4th best fight city in North America and 5th globally (33.6/100). With a rich boxing heritage, the city clinches 33 titles from historic fighters and produced 18 champions – solidifying its place among the world’s elite fight hubs.
Meanwhile, Chicago holds its own as North America’s 5th best fight city and 7th globally (32.5/100). A city steeped in boxing tradition, it claims nine championship titles and nine champions, confirming that its legacy can still pack a punch.
Fighting spirit? Not quite. Rio de Janeiro, Riyadh, and Halifax miss the mark
Out of the top 28 best fight cities, Rio de Janeiro lands at the very bottom, with a score of 0.6/100. While boxing still holds a place in the city’s culture, the infrastructure tells a different story – Rio currently has one registered gym and three venues listed online, with no active professional boxers or major titles to its name.
Despite Riyadh’s recent push to become a global fight hotspot, it ranks 27th out of 28 overall (1.2/100). The city has just three registered boxing gyms, a single venue, and will host one major event in 2025. While it’s still finding its place in the fight world, Riyadh’s rapid growth shows tons of potential for the future.
Meanwhile, Halifax ranks 26th out of 28 globally, and unfortunately, the title of North America’s lowest-ranked fight city (2.1/100). Although boxing isn’t a major sport in the region today, the city still holds a historical claim – it produced George Dixon, who won the bantamweight title back in 1890.

Methodology
In February 2025, we complied a seed list of the 28 most popular boxing cities worldwide, considering both historical and current prominence. To determine the fight cities, we created a weighted index that analyzed a multitude of factors, contributing to a city’s boxing legacy and present-day impact:
- # of Boxing Champions Produced – 25%
- # of Current Professional Boxers – 20%
- # of Registered Boxing Gyms – 20%
- # of Titles Won – 15%
- # of 2025 Hosted Boxing Events – 10%
- # of Boxing Venues – 10%
For registered boxing gyms, only those officially listed on each country’s respective boxing association websites were considered. When evaluating boxing venues, we accounted for locations with historical significance in hosting professional boxing matches.
Regarding historical champions, only fighters from the sport’s “glamour” divisions were included: heavyweight, light heavyweight, middleweight, welterweight, lightweight, featherweight, bantamweight, and flyweight.
