VEGAS MUSIC NEWS: Rod Cancels Residency, Frankie Ends Career

Las Vegas is losing two of its most enduring headliners — one temporarily, one permanently.

This week, Rod Stewart canceled his August run at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace after undergoing what his representatives described as a routine coronary stent procedure. The cancellations cover six dates — Aug. 18, 20, 22, 25, 27, and 29 — and refunds are being handled at the point of purchase.

Stewart, 81, had postponed a Cincinnati tour date days earlier for a “minor medical procedure,” according to a statement, but his team has since confirmed the stent placement and says doctors are “pleased” with his recovery.

Stewart said he is “on the mend” for about a month and thanked medical staff for their care, adding that he’s disappointed to miss shows but eager to perform again once cleared.

It is not clear yet whether the August shows will be rescheduled.

Stewart — who also canceled two Caesars shows in May due to sinus and ear infections — is one of the longest-running Strip performers, surpassing 200 Strip performances in March 2005. His made his Colosseum debut in 2011.

Valli of Decision

While Stewart expects to return, Frankie Valli is closing the curtain for good. And for anyone who has seen recent clips of the nonagenarian struggling through heavily assisted, often lip‑synched performances, this is a decision that feels overdue.

In an Aug. 12 Facebook post, Valli’s brother Bobby Valli announced that the 92-year-old singer is retiring from live performance after more than six decades onstage.

What makes this feel more genuine than most retirement announcements these days is that it was not made to sell any upcoming concert tickets. In fact, Valli already canceled nine U.S. tour dates, from June through November 2026, to focus on unspecified health issues.

Valli’s legacy was revived for new generations through Jersey Boys, the Broadway smash later adapted into a 2014 Clint Eastwood film and a Vegas production from April 2008 (when it opened at the Palazzo) to 2011 (when it closed at Paris Las Vegas).

Valli’s catalog — both with the Four Seasons (“Sherry,” “Big Girls Don’t Cry,” “Walk Like a Man”) and  solo (“Can’t Take My Eyes Off You,” “My Eyes Adored You,” “Grease”) — remains one of the most recognizable bodies of work in American pop.
