The New England Patriots’ 45-17 rout of the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday (Oct. 11) was a welcome result for Las Vegas sportsbooks, with a “fair” amount of money wagered on the Raiders, according to Bob Scucci, vice president of race and sports operations at Boyd Gaming Corp.

That was a primary storyline across the 13-game NFL Week 5 slate on Sunday (Oct. 11), with one game remaining Monday night: the Buffalo Bills visiting SoFi Stadium to take on the Los Angeles Rams.
“We were a small loser to break even,” Scucci said. “Biggest games for the bettors—and losers for us—were the Cincinnati Bengals over the Miami Dolphins, Minnesota Vikings over the New Orleans Saints, and the Detroit Lions over the Arizona Cardinals.”
Beyond the Patriots’ victory, Scucci highlighted the Green Bay Packers’ 31–7 win over the Chicago Bears as a favorable outcome for Boyd.
Underdogs Deliver Key Outcomes
The San Francisco 49ers improved to 5-0 with a 32-29 victory over the Seahawks in Seattle, making a major Super Bowl statement.
Underdogs produced several significant results, led by Green Bay over Chicago, the Baltimore Ravens’ 30-23 win over the Atlanta Falcons, and San Francisco’s road win in Seattle.
Meanwhile, the Detroit Lions routed the Arizona Cardinals 45-21, comfortably covering as 5.5-point road favorites and sending the total well over the closing line of 55 points.
San Francisco Attracts Heavy Action
“The best matchup of the day was San Francisco and Seattle,” Scucci said. “Most of the money was on San Francisco, one of the only underdogs to draw more money than the favorite.
“The public is still having success betting against struggling teams like the Dolphins, Chargers, and Titans, so I expect that trend to continue.”
Meanwhile, a 27-27 tie between the Washington Commanders and New York Giants proved to be a “roller-coaster” for sportsbooks, according to Joey Feazel, head of football at Caesars Sportsbook in Las Vegas.
Commanders-Giants Tie Triggers Live-In-Play Chaos
“The Commanders-Giants tie climbed, dropped, twisted, and turned for four quarters, only to pull back into the station right where it started at 0-0,” Feazel said. “In the closing minutes and overtime, the live moneyline market was in complete chaos, with both teams alternating between longshots and heavy favorites as prices swung from +600 to -1000.
“Every big play looked like it might decide the game and the book’s fate, only for the final whistle to leave everyone staring at the screen. It was 90-plus minutes of drama, countless swings in win probability, and in the end, nobody got the outcome they expected.”
Late Slate Favors Bettors
Overall, Feazel noted the early games provided a solid base for the book. Even with the Eagles failing to hold off an upset in the final seconds against the Jaguars in London, Jacksonville sustained strong spread action throughout the week.
Results favored bettors more in the afternoon slate, boosted by a late Denver Broncos field goal in their 23-17 win over the Chargers that allowed Denver to cover. The Lions combined with the Over was one of the day’s most popular parlay combinations.
Drake Maye’s MVP Odds Surge
On the player props market, several star performers delivered for bettors, led by Jacksonville quarterback Trevor Lawrence (331 passing yards) and New England’s Drake Maye, who posted 374 passing yards and five total touchdowns (four passing, one rushing) against Las Vegas.
Jaxon Smith-Njigba of the Seahawks continues to be a fan-favourite Anytime TD scorer and contributed his share, adding to his 95.5 receiving-yard mark and scoring a touchdown, Feazel added.
Maye and the Patriots emerged as the week’s biggest market movers. New England’s Super Bowl futures shortened from +3000 to +2200, while Maye saw the sharpest adjustment in the NFL MVP market at Caesars, moving from +5000 down to +2000 following Sunday’s performance.
Bills-Rams Closing Matchup Draws Balanced Action
Heading into Monday Night Football, the Rams (2-2) are 3.5-point favorites against the Bills (3-1), with the total set around 54.5 at most sportsbooks ahead of the 8:15 p.m. EDT kickoff.
“When two strong teams meet like San Francisco and Seattle, or tonight’s game, the public frequently takes the points,” Scucci noted. “Tonight’s game has drawn balanced two-way action, and we’ll likely need the under more than a specific side.”
