The social media model who received national attention for allegedly stabbing to death her boyfriend in Miami was accused of an earlier violent incident. It took place last year at The Cosmopolitan on the Las Vegas Strip.

Courtney Clenney, 26, was charged with second-degree murder for the April 3 fatal knifing of Christian Obumseli, 27. She was arrested last week in Hawaii.

But months earlier, in July 2021, when the two were staying at The Cosmopolitan, Clenney was charged with domestic battery, KLAS, a local TV station, reported. The charge was later dropped.

She allegedly tossed a glass at Obumseli’s head on July 27 after the couple got into a dispute. Clenney also admitted to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) that she had pushed Obumseli, the report said. But Obumseli had allegedly grabbed her by the hair and put his fist up to her neck, KLAS reported based on her claims.

Clenney has two million followers on Instagram. She also appears on OnlyFans. She also uses the name Courtney Tailor on social media.

Stabbing Details

The Miami stabbing took place in the couple’s apartment. Obumseli died from an eight-centimeter-deep stab wound to the chest, officials revealed. Clenney claimed Obumseli grabbed her throat and pushed her up against a wall. Clenney then picked up a kitchen knife. She then threw it at him, as he was about 10 feet away.

Clenney’s attorney, Frank Prieto, said her actions were in self-defense, the New York Post reported. He acknowledged the couple was in a “tumultuous” relationship. But he blamed the dead man and called him “an abuser,” the Post said.

He would manipulate and abuse Courtney in private when he thought nobody was around,” Pietro was quoted.

But based on a police investigation, she was charged for the stabbing. Last week, she waived extradition during a court hearing in Hawaii. Earlier this week, Clenney was in custody at the East Hawaii Detention Center.

She was on the Hawaiian Islands to undergo treatment at a rehabilitation facility, the Post reported. She was suffering from substance abuse and post-traumatic stress disorder, the report added.

Obumseli’s parents said they are relieved Clenney was arrested. They’ve stated they want to see her sentenced to life in prison, TMZ reported, via statements from the Obumselis’ attorney, Larry Handfield.

Abuse Caught on Tape

The couple reportedly had gotten into numerous disputes and violent confrontations throughout their relationship. Miami police responded to the couple’s residence four or more times to investigate reports of domestic disputes, Handfield told the Miami Herald.

In February, the two got into a physical fight in an elevator. It is shown in a video released recently by Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle.

“The violent and toxic 2-year relationship of these individuals did not have to end in tragedy with Christian’s murder as a victim of domestic violence,” Fernandez Rundle said in a Facebook post.

There are counseling options for domestic abuse victims. One is the National Domestic Violence Hotline.
