Sturgis Buffalo Chip Plans Biker-Themed Casino Near Las Vegas

  • The organizers of the Sturgis Buffalo Chip motorcycle campground and festival in South Dakota say they’re building a casino hotel near Las Vegas
  • The designer and developer will be Mark Advent, who designed the Strip’s New York-New York Hotel & Casino

The organizers of the Sturgis Buffalo Chip motorcycle campground and festival announced plans Thursday to open a themed casino hotel near Las Vegas by 2028.

According to Buffalo Chip Global, the property — tentatively titled “Buffalo Chip Nevada” — will feature a barn-themed casino, a 200-room luxury hotel, a 10,000-seat amphitheater, a three-level Honky Tonk bar, and a village of tiny homes.

A thoroughfare, called Sturgis Street, will be lined with retail, dining and entertainment experiences, and additional amenities will include RV parking, a general store and a gas station.

The designer and developer of all this will be none other than Buffalo Chip Global founder Mark Advent, designer of the Las Vegas Strip’s New York-New York Hotel & Casino.

The only question is where all this will happen.

A press release from Buffalo Chip Global mentions only “Southern Nevada,” a generic location typically used not to refer to greater Las Vegas (Las Vegas, Henderson, North Las Vegas and Boulder City) but somewhere close.

The most likely other possibilities include Mesquite, Laughlin, Pahrump, Searchlight and Primm, but your guess is as good as ours.

According to Buffalo Chip Global, the mystery site is “currently undergoing due diligence and planning, with deal discussions progressing positively” and is on track to open by 2028.

Hog Heaven

Founded in 1981 by Rod Woodruff, the Sturgis Buffalo Chip — which trademarked the phrase “The Best Party Anywhere” to refer to itself — is the annual motorcycle festival held in Sturgis, South Dakota that also functions as the destination for the annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.

The 600-acre campground hosts nine days of concerts, bike shows, daredevil stunts, racing, charity rides and beauty pageants.

“Starting the Chip was about creating a home for people who live for the ride,” Woodruff said in the press release. “Now, with Mark [Advent] and his team, we’re turning that spirit into a year-round experience that resonates in even more places.”

Rumor has it that Buffalo Bill’s in Primm was sold, so it may go there.
