Singapore has big plans for Sentosa, the government’s holiday island that’s already home to one of the world’s largest casino resorts.

The Sentosa Development Corporation (SDC) has unveiled a long-term transformation of the resort and theme park destination that’s located off the southern coast of Singapore’s main island. The 20-year initiative from the Ministry of Trade and Industry agency is dubbed “Your Island. Reimagined.”
The government says the project is headlined by the introduction of the neighboring 49-acre Brani Island, merging with Sentosa to allow the holiday destination to expand its footprint.
The SDC release says new landmarks in Sentosa will include the Imbiah Canopy, a hilltop retreat on Mount Imbiah featuring dining, retail, and event spaces, and the Sensorium, a beachfront lifestyle venue with sustainable, green design.
The multiphase overhaul of Sentosa is to include enhanced connectivity with the main island, reimagined beaches and coastlines, and a focus on sustainability.
Casino Expansion, Super Nintendo Theme Park
Resorts World Sentosa is Sentosa’s primary anchor, the integrated resort destination owned and operated by Malaysia-based Genting that opened in January 2010.
In 2023, RW Sentosa announced a more than $5 billion renovation and expansion. The plan greatly exceeded its statutory investment obligation of approximately $3 billion that the Singaporean government demanded in exchange for its duopoly with Marina Bay Sands to continue for at least another decade.
Scheduled for completion in 2030, Resorts World Sentosa will add two luxury hotels with 700 high-end rooms and a four-story retail complex. The S.E.A. Aquarium is being tripled in size and rebranded as the Singapore Oceanarium. The highly anticipated Super Nintendo World will become the latest theme park attraction behind Illumination’s Minion Land.
Super Nintendo World will be the first Super Nintendo theme park in Southeast Asia. The destination will feature interactive and immersive rides, including Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge, a groundbreaking attraction that combines real-life with augmented reality.
Resorts World’s $5.3 billion expansion is set for completion in 2030.
Singaporean government officials are betting that the next chapter of the Greater Sentosa Master Plan will attract twice as many visitors as it does today. Sentosa welcomed about 16 million visitors last year.
“For more than five decades, Sentosa has welcomed generations of Singaporeans and visitors from around the world, growing into a place that holds precious memories for many and is well-loved by all. It is, in many ways, a global Singapore brand,” said Thien Kwee Eng, chief executive officer of Sentosa Development Corporation.
“The Greater Sentosa Master Plan is the greatest transformation in our history. We will stay true to the soul and identity of this island, while shaping the next generation of world-class experiences. Before any of it is built, we wanted to share this vision openly, invite Singaporeans to step inside it and shape it together,” Kwee Eng added.
Sands Catchup
Singapore’s casino duopoly is dominated by Sands, which commanded an 87% share of the gaming market in 2025. In recent years, Resorts World Sentosa’s market share has gradually lessened, with Sands increasing its position.
Both properties, however, are hugely profitable. In 2025, RW Sentosa posted a net operating profit of $308.2 million.
