  • Durant a 15-time NBA Allstar, surefire Hall of Famer

The Kevin Durant trade has reportedly finally gone down, with the 15-time all-star going from the Phoenix Suns to the Houston Rockets, and betting odds have shifted accordingly.

Rockets Now Among Betting Favourites

A report by ESPN’s Shams Charania broke just after noon today with the details – Durant to the Rockets for Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, the No. 10 in this year’s draft, and five second-round picks.

There’s video out there on X with Durant on a panel at a Fanatics event finding out about the trade.

We’re gonna see, man,” he told the crowd, smiling. The deal can only become formally completed when the new season starts July 6.

Durant: 26.6 PPG Last Season

Shortly after the trade, Casino.org received a missive from ESPN BET, that the Rockets’ 2025-26 NBA Championship odds moved from +1800 to +850, the second-best odds behind the Oklahoma City Thunder (+220), and ahead of the Indiana Pacers, Cleveland Cavaliers and New York Knicks (all +1000).

The Thunder take on the Pacers tonight in Game 7 of the NBA Finals. The Thunder, at home, are -258 on the Moneyline, with the Pacers at +210, at DraftKings, with the Thunder -7 on the spread (-110), the Pacers +7 (-110).

Defensively Elite Team

The Rockets finished second in Western Conference last season, at 52-30, and were knocked out by the Golden State Warriors in the first round of the playoffs, in seven games.

Durant joins a squad under coach Ime Udoka that was No. 2 in the NBA in defensive efficiency. Center Alperen Sengun earned his first all-star nod last season, averaging 19.1 points, 10.3 rebounds and 4.9 assists, while Amen Thompson has emerged as a lockdown defender at forward, averaging 14.1 points, 8.2 rebounds and 3.8 assists last season. Fred VanVleet won an NBA championship with the Toronto Raptors five years ago and steers the team as the veteran guard (14.1/3.7/5.6).

Odds Shift at ESPN BET

Green recently signed a $106 million extension and has shown flashes of future star potential.

Still, NBA observers saw the elite defensive numbers and big title potential if they added a top-level scorer, and Durant is that, even at age 37. Last season with the Suns he averaged 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.2 assists, shooting 52.7%.

The Suns are now a complete team – great coaching, athleticism, scheme and talent.

It was a complicated deal to make, since Durant, heading into the last year of his contract, had said he only would sign an extension if he was dealt to one of three teams – the Rockets, Miami Heat or San Antonio Spurs.

Odds over at DraftKings have shifted as well for the 2026 NBA championship – the Thunder at +240, followed by the Rockets (+75), Knocks (+900), Pacers (+900) and Cavaliers (+1100).
