- Police say surveillance footage showed the suspect changing his shirt inside a Dotty’s where his driver’s license was scanned on entry
- Investigators say the shooting followed a confrontation over the victim’s girlfriend outside a laundromat leaving one man dead and one woman wounded
- Muhammad was allegedly on probation for a previous firearm offense in the same area and has an extensive felony record according to authorities
A Las Vegas man accused of fatally shooting a stranger and wounding the victim’s girlfriend was identified after he used his driver’s license to check in at a local Dotty’s Casino shortly after the killing, authorities said.

Abdul Muhammad, 39, has been charged with murder and two counts of attempted murder in connection with the June 18 shooting death of Marquis Perkins, according to Las Vegas Metro Police (LVMPD).
At approximately 9:03 p.m. that day, LVMPD responded to reports of a shooting in a parking lot in the 4900 block of East Craig Road. There they found two people suffering from gunshot wounds.
Perkins was pronounced dead at the scene. His girlfriend, who was shot in the leg, was taken to a local hospital and is expected to recover. The woman’s two-year-old child was unharmed, LVMPD said.
Shooting Caught on Video
An arrest report states that Perkins, the woman, and the child earlier arrived in the parking lot in a silver Mercedes because the woman wanted to use the laundromat. She was approached by a man she knew only as “D,” later identified as Muhammad, who wanted to talk to her about T-shirts he was selling.
Marquis told Muhammad not to “speak with his girl” and to address him directly, which caused an argument, according to the report. Muhammad said he meant no disrespect, complaining Marquis had overreacted, the report states.
The couple continued to unload their laundry from the car when Muhammad opened fire, shooting Perkins multiple times, according to police who said the shooting was captured by a nearby liquor store’s security cameras.
Muhammad fired 17 times at the vehicle with the toddler inside, according to an arrest report.
The gunman was also captured on video entering the nearby Dotty’s, where he changed his shirt. A clerk at the casino scanned his driver’s license on entry, which allowed police to identify Muhammad as the suspect.
Criminal Record
Muhammad has an extensive criminal record and was on probation at the time of the shooting for a separate incident in which he discharged a firearm in the same area where Perkins was killed, according to The Las Vegas Review-Journal.
A five-time convicted felon, his previous convictions include robbery, attempted burglary, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, and battery. In addition to the murder charges, he faces counts of carrying a concealed weapon without a permit and owning or possessing a gun by a prohibited person.
He is being held without bail at the Clark County Detention Center and is due to appear in Las Vegas Justice Court on July 9.
