Video posted to social media showed an extensive law-enforcement response, with a witness describing the scene as “crazy” and estimating that as many as 100 police vehicles were involved. The footage also captured a police helicopter hovering overhead, its spotlight trained on the ground as officers converged on the area.

Unruly Mob

In a statement released shortly afterward, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) said officers were responding to an incident in which an unruly crowd formed outside the resort property, triggered by a performance that began to disrupt traffic along the Strip.

“Officers contacted the crowd and attempted to take multiple individuals into custody,” LVMPD said. “At some point, an officer was struck by an item thrown by an individual.”

Police said 11 people were arrested in connection with the disturbance. Due to the size of the crowd and the evolving situation, multiple area commands were dispatched to assist.

LVMPD emphasized that the incident was resolved peacefully and that no officers were injured. Vehicle and pedestrian traffic, which had been heavily restricted during the response, has since returned to normal, though police said a significant presence remained in the area for a time as a precaution.

No Injuries

No further details were immediately released regarding the identities of those arrested or the nature of the performance that drew the crowd. Authorities did not report any injuries among members of the public.

The investigation remains ongoing.

An earlier version of this article incorrectly stated that the incident occurred outside the Bellagio. The disturbance took place outside Paris Las Vegas, directly opposite the Bellagio on the Las Vegas Strip.
