By attending Usher’s residency at the Park MGM’s Dolby Live theater on July 5, 2023, actress/singer Keke Palmer set in motion a series of events that led to her and her then-boyfriend, actor Darius Jackson, now sharing custody of their young son.

As most fans remember, Usher serenaded Palmer — a regular part of the flirtatious crooner’s act that always starred female celebs populating his front rows. And video of the act got posted to social media, as it always did.

This inflamed Jackson, but not for the reason one might expect. Instead of being jealous of how much his girlfriend seemed to enjoy Usher’s attention, Jackson objected to what Palmer wore — a black bodysuit and sheer dress.

“It’s the outfit tho,” he posted to X. “You a mom.”

This did not sit well with Palmer’s fans, who mounted a tremendous online backlash against Jackson’s sexist comments. And his attempt to snuff out the dumpster fire with a follow-up post didn’t work out any better for him.

“We live in a generation where a man of the family doesn’t want the wife & mother to his kids to showcase booty cheeks to please others & he gets told how much of a hater he is,” he posted to X.  “This is my family & my representation. I have standards & morals to what I believe.”

On Tuesday, Palmer admitted the significant role this played in the couple’s breakup less than a month later.

“We caused some ruckus in my relationship,” she said while reuniting with Usher on the latest episode of her “Baby, This is Keke Palmer” podcast.

Usher was quick to absolve himself of any role in the drama, however.

“Did have anything to do with what was going on in your home?” the “Confessions” singer asked Palmer. “Did I send you that dress? I cannot be responsible for how people choose to react to my experience as an entertainer.

“I am not deliberately trying to do anything that’s gonna rock anybody’s home.”

Usher was correct, of course. And there was much more wrong in that relationship than just what happened at his concert.

Last year, Palmer was granted a domestic violence restraining order against Jackson, which claimed that he physically abused her multiple times during their two-year relationship.

Toward the end of their interview, Usher told Palmer: “You looked fabulous, by the way, and if you didn’t wear what you wore, I wouldn’t have seen you.”
