VEGAS THEATER NEWS:  ‘Absinthe’ Will Yield to F1, ‘Bolero’ Adding Shows

We hear Spiegelworld poobah Ross Mollison loves F1, but hates what it does to live entertainment on the Strip. Basically, there is no Strip when it runs, since Las Vegas Boulevard literally becomes the Las Vegas Grand Prix racetrack, killing most vehicular and pedestrian access to Las Vegas’ biggest attractions.

Three years ago, Mollison — the creative mastermind behind Absinthe — staged a show at the Cosmopolitan about F1 during F1, figuring to join them if he couldn’t beat them. Lights Out never returned.

Now, he’s just apparently giving up. Absinthe will go dark Nov. 16-29, 2026 — using the downtime to undertake long-neglected repairs to its tent in front of Caesars Palace.

Spiegelworld’s other Las Vegas productions, The Atomic Saloon Show at The Venetian and The Party at Cosmo’s Superfrico, will continue operating as scheduled. Performances of Absinthe are expected to resume following completion of the upgrades.

Plaza Extends Bolero

Bolero — The Show has added six performances at the Plaza Hotel & Casino, extending its engagement through this fall. The production offers a celebration of Latin music and culture through a blend of live vocals, dance, orchestral arrangements and theatrical storytelling.

Led by Las Vegas producer/singer/songwriter Adán Alejandro, the show traces the evolution of the bolero genre, which originated in Cuba during the late 19th century. Rather than focusing on a single character, the production explores the musical tradition itself, highlighting influences from across Latin America and the Caribbean.

The production features a live orchestra directed by Adrian Ortega and choreography by Enrique Lugo. Guests are invited to arrive early for complimentary salsa lessons before each performance, while post-show festivities continue with dancing and music during Club Bolero.

The six now performances (Aug. 1, 15 and 29, Sept. 12 and 19, and Oct. 3, 2026) are all Saturday shows. Tickets, starting at just over $80 with taxes and fees, are available here.

Historic Westside Staging Sister Act

Sister Act: The Musical is headed to the West Las Vegas Theatre on Aug. 14-15. And the admission is free. It’s being staged by Broadway in the Hood, a Las Vegas-based nonprofit organization that uses performing arts education to help young people develop confidence, creativity and leadership skills.

The West Las Vegas Theatre, a 300-seat performance venue, regularly hosts similar programs celebrating local culture and artistic expression. Three performances are scheduled. Doors open one hour before showtime.
