Canadian gaming: $2,000 Main Event

The event made its debut in Toronto last year. Once again, the upcoming international circuit event will be held in the poker room at the resort. GGPoker became the official sponsor of the poker room in January.

The upcoming WSOP tournament will take place April 10-22 and will feature an expanded schedule and bigger prize pools, as well as 11 WSOP Circuit Ring Events.

This year’s tournament is expected to surpass last year’s CA$5.5 million prize pool, with the expanded schedule. The CA$2,000 Main Event, the CA$3,500 High Roller event, new Ladies, Seniors Events and Pot Limit Omaha tournament are part of the 2025 lineup.

The WSOP Circuit takes them to locations around the U.S., where the international circuit takes them to Brazil, England, France, Holland, and Canada. Playground in Montreal (March 24-April 8) and Deerfoot Inn & Casino in Calgary (Aug. 7-19, 2024) are other stops on the international circuit schedule for the 2024 WSOP international circuit so far.

In 2023, Great Canadian Casino Resort Toronto announced the opening of a state-of-the-art poker room, with 30 tables operating around the clock, seven days a week.

$2.8 Million Prize Pool Last Year

“We’re thrilled to partner once again with GGPoker to bring an elite poker experience to Toronto,” said Michael Kim, Executive Vice President, Great Canadian Entertainment, in a written statement. “The demand for this exceptional tournament continues to grow, attracting top talent from around the world. This year’s event promises even higher stakes and unparalleled excitement. We’re proud to continue elevating the poker scene and being the sole destination in Ontario delivering WSOP events for players and fans alike.”

At last year’s inaugural WSOP Circuit Event, 6,000 people entered, including 324 Main Event online qualifiers from GGPoker. That $2,000 Main Event alone generated a CA$2.8 million prize pool, while the $3,500 High Roller Events generated a CA$1 million prize pool.

We are excited to continue our partnership with Great Canadian and deliver premier poker experiences,” said Sarne Lightman, Managing Director of GGPoker. “By combining the best of live and online poker, we’re ensuring players have unparalleled access to the WSOP Circuit in Ontario.”

The new, modern-looking $1 billion Great Canadian Casino Resort Toronto encompasses 328,000 square feet of gaming space, including over 4,800 slot machines and 145 table games. It’s the largest casino in Canada and one of the largest in North America.

The casino is sitting adjacent to Woodbine Racetrack, near the interchange of Highways 401 and 427, a Vegas-style entertainment resort experience features a 400-room hotel, 5,000-person live entertainment space, and a selection of on-site restaurants.
